Phil Mickelson has played the best part of his golf in the past few months. Showing glimpses of his skills that led to a storied career, the 52-year-old secured his best rank in the LIV Golf Series in Chicago last month. Since then, Mickelson has made it a habit of voicing his achievements and progress on social media, but his fans weren’t pleased with his comments this time around.

What did Mickelson’s tweet concern about?
Currently in Bangkok for the LIV Golf Series’ sixth event, Mickelson carded 2-under par in the first couple of rounds to remain in contention for another top-10 finish. He has recorded seven birdies so far to gain a rank of T20.
The 6-time Major Championship winner has impressed one and all with his displays after a horrendous start to LIV Golf. Prior to the Chicago event, the HY Flyers GC captain never managed a par total in an event. His best finish was a lowly 35th at the 48-member Bedminster event.

However, Mickelson has regained his form and looks to be his old self in an unfamiliar location at the Stonehill Golf Club in Bangkok. Indeed, one of his shots in round two was included in the ‘Drive of the Day’ feature. The 2021 PGA Championship winner couldn’t resist a small pat on the back, re-tweeting the post with some encouraging words of his own.
Just saying 😎
Winning and getting my game back to where I want it is a process. Today’s final round in Bangkok will be a great test to see just how close I am to playing the way I believe I still can. https://t.co/Wpa88UU22l— Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) October 8, 2022
However, netizens responded contemptuously to the post, subjugating Mickelson for his decision to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series. Here’s a selection of those tweets.
Used to root for you every week. Literally haven't given a crap about what you're doing for 6 months. Zero interest. You, and the rest of the 'big names' are getting beat down by college kids while Cantlay & Kim have drained 40 birds against 2 bogeys combined. That's competition

Nobody cares. You’ve sold your soul for nothing.

Don't care Phil..went from my favorite to a nobody

Read the room Phil. Nobody cares or will ever care about your golf game again😎

Damn Phil that’s one hell of a big crowd watching your failing swing 😜

Nevertheless, there were a few reassuring comments by a certain section, who abided by Mickelson.
These nasty people probably don’t like “mean tweets”, except their own. LIV will rule in a few years. Regular PGA events are already not interesting. Just shoot more birdies and fewer boggies on this course. Throw in an eagle. Go Phil.

Shouldn’t have left the PGA Phil. I know the bag was huge but this league isn’t viable and you guys are now gonna be a virtual cliff note in the game of golf. Wish you the best with LiV and hope your game keeps coming back for those fans though

3 straight rounds in the 60s Phil it’s trending 📈. Very few 52 year olds will ever have the game you do. Lets get it Phil! 👊

Will Phil Mickelson win the LIV event in Bangkok?
While a good day will propel him to the upper echelons of the standings, it would take a miracle for Mickelson to win his debut LIV event in Bangkok. Spanish professional Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra is leading the table as it stands, with a lead of 16-under par before the final round. The 22-year-old is yet to make a mark in his young career, but a victory in Stonehill will be a welcome boost for the youngster.
Meanwhile, Mickelson will ostensibly push for a top-10 finish. But do you see Mickelson lifting his first LIV title? Comment down below.
