The 2023 Ryder Cup is hovering over the golf world, and the teams concerned are taking shape. Its 44th edition will tee off at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome from September 29th. Legendary golfer Sergio Garcia’s chances are as good as over in regard to his Ryder Cup participation this year.

Be that as it may, the LIV golfer from Spain is not bitter, and in an act of great gesture, extends notes of congratulations to those representing and winning for his home country. Let’s dive into the heart-warming story.

Sergio Garcia is a delightful example of sportsmanship

Last year, Garcia changed tours. He chose LIV Golf, the then-newly formed Saudi-backed circuit, over the traditional European tour in what seemed like a risky move. It indeed promised him a big profit but also subjected him to a lot of harsh criticism. He is yet to shine in the LIV league, though.

But that does not stop him from appreciating others powering through tournaments. The Spanish golfer became a prime example of sportsmanship as he visited Twitter to congratulate the Spanish women’s soccer team. They won their first Fifa World Cup on Sunday.

Garcia wrote in the post, “Spectacular! World Champions! You already have yours and well deserved! Congratulations, you are the history of Spain.” His words reflect joy and pride.

Spain’s soccer team, La Roja, faced England’s Lionesses in the final on Sunday. The score read 1-0 at the end of the match. It is indeed a remarkable feat for the country where the women’s team has long tried to make itself count.
Garcia keeps track of what is happening in the sports world. Earlier, when La Roja qualified for the final, he had congratulated them. His spirits are high when someone from his country is winning. It does not have to be him representing Spain.

Garcia’s Ryder Cup woes

The Spanish golfer has not been able to cultivate any fruitful results at LIV. It’s been almost a year, and the golf world is still waiting for a Sergio win. About the Ryder Cup, Garcia has represented his country approximately ten times and holds the record of 25-13-7. But now he can neither get into the line-up through automatic qualification, nor get picked by the captain. His resignation from the DP World Tour in May made sure of the same. His performance hasn’t been great either.

Earlier this month, he shared that he will miss playing the Ryder Cup this year. And most of all, will miss the team spirit that he shares with his mates. Jon Rahm came up in the conversation too. And Garcia expressed that their friendship remains unchanged despite everything.

In a podcast interview with Golf Sin Etiquetas, Rahm also said he would only choose Sergio Garcia for the Ryder Cup out of all the European players in LIV golf. Are you going to miss Sergio Garcia in the Ryder Cup? Let us know in the comments below.
