In one of her recent episodes, ‘Live from Phoenix,’ she talked about a historical treasure surrounded by current controversies – the small stone bridge in St. Andrews Links golf course, Scotland. It has become an essential spot in the golf world. However, everything changes with time, even though one doesn’t like it. The same is the case with the bridge, and the golf beauty has put forward her thoughts on the scenario.

Did Paige Spiranac dislike the patio bridge that was installed?

The bridge in question is named The Swilcan Bridge, aka Swilcanth. It spans between the first and eighteenth fairways on the Old Course. Spiranac talked about it and explained its current look. She said, “It’s the bridge in St. Andrews. And they built this patio, like stone addition to the bridge. And so when you’re walking up to the bridge, you basically have a little patio before you get on there.” The internet queen further explained the changes done to the bridge.

Earlier, the bridge was surrounded by greenery. Many outstanding golfers like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have celebrated their victory on that bridge. But just recently, the authorities put on a patio, which changed the original bridge. Spiranac explained the reason behind the change. “They did that because it was just dead grass, because so many people, obviously, were going to walk up the bridge, take their pictures, and so they want to make it look a lot better,” said the golf beauty.

However, she was very unhappy with the change. Spiranac pointed towards the negative aspect and said, “They got so much hate to the point that they have removed the patio. And now it’s just dirt.” The former pro discussed the controversy and said, “there was a little controversy I was looking, and a couple of big-name pros jumped in on it.” And she understands that no one likes changes; therefore, people were upset.

Did anyone else object to the change in the iconic bridge?

The bridge is around 700 years old. It has been part of golf heritage and a famous spot for the most famous photos in the golf world. For the fans, this bridge is one of the holiest turfs. The six-time major champion, Nick Faldo, was firmly against the changes. His statement is proof.

He asked, “If you’ve travelled halfway around the world for your bucket list round at St. Andrews, would you rather leave with a bit of historic dirt on your shoes or a few cement mix scraps?” English pro golfer, Eddie Pepperell, also agreed with Faldo.
