LIV golfer Phil Mickelson needs no introduction. The lefty is a six-time major winner and has 45 PGA Tour wins. Now, these achievements didn’t come his way easily. There were tough courses to deal with. To bail himself out of tricky situations, Mickelson often used his signature shot, the overhead chip shot, also called the backward flop shot.
This backward flop shot that Mickelson has been putting on view for three decades now is trending all over again on social media. And there was a major uproar in the golf community as this video resurfaced. Let’s find out more.

As this shot circulated on the internet all over again, golf netizens actively showered it with comments. There was mostly criticism. Seems like fans still couldn’t reconcile with the fact that Phil Mickelson chose to join hands with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf last year, an act of betrayal according to many. Then there were some who shared their experiences in regard to whether or not they have tried it on the golf course. One wrote: “Have to try this one day!” Another wrote: “I’ve tried and failed many times lol.”
One recounted how he was able to pull it off once. “I was able to do it once…but not couldn’t repeat it again 🙁” Others wrote: “I’ve done that. Just not on purpose.” and “Maybe should have tried playing it last week”.

One can see for themselves how harshly social media reacted to the shot. It underscores they have not yet forgiven Mikelson for his defection to LIV golf last year. Every time something related to him comes up, it’s in for massive criticism.

In order to hit this shot, one has to position the body parallel to the slope. Followed by getting the club underneath the ball and having to snap the wrists readily after coming in contact.
