The Open Championship 2023 is currently in its last leg, with the Sunday round now underway. The major has been a real nail-biter and has delivered several unreal results. It has been an amazing four days of terrific achievements that neither the players nor the fans are likely to forget.
While the pro golfers showed immense skills on the links, this year it was an amateur golfer’s performance that stole the show. He had a delightful experience alongside big names in the golf community, winning himself the coveted Silver Medal at The Open!

Round 2 of the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool proved to be quite the predicament. 75 golfers made the cut, but a majority of them were significantly overpar as compared to round 2 leader Brian Harman. Apart from the prolific LIV Golfers and PGA legends, there were also six amateurs on the course vying for the title—or at least to make it into moving day.
Sadly, five of the six amateurs missed the cut. However, South African Amateur golfer Christo Lamprecht made it over the threshold. Georgia Tech’s uprising senior may not have had the best round as compared to the golf pros with years of experience in the Major tournaments, but he still did a great job. His scorecard read 66, 79, 76, and 74 by the end of round 4 on Sunday, bringing him to a total of 11-over par.
But it’s not a total loss for the amateur golfer who rolled down to almost the bottom of the ranks. The incredible manner in which he made the cut, stuck to the end, and decreased his strokes in the last 2 rounds entitles him to ‘low amateur honors’. He will be receiving his silver medal for making it to one of the most prestigious events on the golf circuit.
A week he will never forget.

And although the amateur would have loved to have finished higher, he knew he had accomplished a great deal this week and was proud. “[Today] was a little bit disappointing,” Christo Lamprecht said, as per the Guardian, when talking about the over-par result on Sunday. “But obviously standing here being the last amateur standing and getting the silver medal this afternoon, yeah, it puts a smile back on my face!”
The South African has undoubtedly earned himself a great honor at the 151st Open Championship and plans on continuing on the college circuit for a while before he eventually turns pro.

Aside from the Amateur golfer earning a substantial accolade, Hoylake was home to many achievements by the pros. Let’s take a look at some of them:
- Brian Harman matched Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s 65 after 36 holes. However, Harman did it on a 71-par course as opposed to the epic golfers who made it on a 72-par course.
- Jon Rahm made his all-time career low of 63.
- Rahm also broke the record for the lowest score of 63 at the Open Championship on Saturday.
No doubt, by the end of Round 4, the superlative golfers will dazzle their fans with more achievements and more surprises.
