21 club championship. That’s what Donald Trump says he’s won in his long golfing career. However, if you ask fans, they’ll point out ample evidence that shows the opposite. And, that’s exactly what happened after this year’s Republican National Convention.

But why now, you ask? Well, Trump’s compatriots couldn’t help but gush about his superior golfing abilities during the 2024 Republican National Convention, that drew the ire of critics. The head golf pro at Trump International Golf Club in Florida and Trump’s attorney, Alina Hanna, were among the primary speakers who took center stage. While Hanna put emphasis on how great a golf swing the ex-president has, John Nieporte, his former caddie, had a more eminent speech prepared.

He opened his monologue by stating, “Donald Trump is a great boss and one hell of a golfer.” Back in March, the former president was seen lifting the trophy at the Palm Beach Golf Club owned by him. This was his third title of the year. Talking about this, Nieporte mentioned, “At our club championship in March, I watched President Trump hit a perfect 210-yard 4-iron to within 10 feet of the hole.“

Nieporte’s speech once again brought the question, “Who is better at golf, Biden or Trump?” into the limelight. Especially after he said, “Donald Trump won 21 club championships. Joe Biden, 0”.

The sport has evidently been a major topic of discussion throughout this year’s election campaigns. During June 27’s Presidential debate in Atlanta, the former POTUS even took a public dig at president Joe Biden, while boasting about his putting accomplishments.

“I just won two club championships, not even senior, two regular club championships. To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way and I do it,” the 78-year-old said. Further comparing himself to his opponent, Trump said, “He [Joe Biden] doesn’t do it. he can’t hit a ball 50 yards. He challenged me to a golf match, he can’t hit a ball 50 yards. I think I’m in very good shape.”

For the unversed, Donald Trump has 18 golfing properties around the world, since acquiring his first one in 1999: 11 in the United States, two in Scotland, one in Ireland, two in Indonesia, and two in the Middle East (Muscat and Dubai). Notably, his Bedminster, New Jersey was the venue for the 2017 US Women’s Open.

But despite his close ties to the golfing world, social media soon brimmed with naysayers criticizing his skills.

Spectators’ shell out some hard advice to Donald Trump

As the former presidenyt got over his acceptance speech at the RNC, he was followed by speeches from his campaign members. The spectators expected the speech to be regarding his candidacy in the presidential election. But as dubbed by the audience, it seemed to be more of a golf promotion. This has happened time and again in almost all the press conferences that Trump has been a part of. Frustrated at this, one of the followers commented, “He should stay at the club and golf.”

Back in 2006, when Donald Trump made an appearance at the Edgewood Tahoe South for the American Century Championship, he finished in 62th place. However, supposedly, he always finishes at the top of the list when he is playing at his own golf courses. One of the users made fun of the same and stated, Well, he wouldn’t wear an ear patch for Trump, so whatever.”

Trump is a self-proclaimed 2.8 handicap, and he also owns 16 golf courses across the world. Another user took to this, wittily enough, and commented, “Reminder: Trump claims a 3 handicap and multiple club championships, but when he played in the American Century celebrity tournament, a tournament he could not cheat in, he shot 52 over par in 3 rounds and finished in 62nd place out of 80 celebrities, behind guys like Ray Romano.”

Well, at the RNC, it was not just his attorney, caddie, or granddaughter who sang praises of his golf skills and passion for the sport. Other members of the campaign, like Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s former counselor, Carrie Ruiz, the golf general manager at Trump National Doral in Miami, and anyone else who got on the podium to defend the ex-President, only reiterated the same. One user found the whole situation quite amusing and sarcastically wrote, “What’s next? Are they going to get his proctologist up there to vouch for him?”

The bad boy of golf has often praised Trump’s golf skills and even stated, “He hits it good. He is a decent player.” However, one of the netizens who claimed to have seen Donald Trump’s golf swing had rather opposite views and wrote, “I’ve seen his swing—this guy is also lying. SO sad. Sick and tired of their lies!”
