Since the beginning of 2022, Phil Mickelson has been vocal about his support for LIV Golf. He converted his words into action after joining the Saudi-backed Tour earlier this year. Since then, Lefty has been criticizing the PGA Tour. However, his latest comments on his former Tour seemed to have captured a pinch of controversy as fans on Twitter shared their dismay with the LIV Golf star.
Being the face of the Tour, the golfer has backed the breakaway Tour since its first waves. In its fifth event of the year, Mickelson is currently competing at LIV Golf Chicago Invitational in Rich Harvest Farms.

Despite the anticipation leading to the tournament, Phil’s comments about the PGA Tour seemed to have caught a lot more attention. But what did the 6-time Major winner say about the 92-year-old Tour?
Phil Mickelson backs LIV Golf and slams PGA Tour
Within a few months, the lucrative Tour has managed to grasp the top talents of the PGA Tour. Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and many more to name a few. The breakaway Tour counts 12 major champions among its players.

After carding two-under 70 in the opening round of the LIV event in Chicago on Friday, Phil took time to talk to the reporters in the press conference. Considering the signings of the Saudi-backed Tour, Mickelson believes that LIV Golf has the best golf talent which the PGA Tour had for the past 20 or 30 years. He said, “The PGA Tour for the last 20 or 30 years have had all the best players in the world”.

Moreover, Lefty also believes that the newfound Tour is here to stay in the long run. Phil Mickelson said, “That will never be the case again. LIV Golf is here to stay, and this type of divisive talk is doing nobody good”.
Following his comments on the PGA Tour, the 52-year-old received backlash from fans on Twitter. Some even used slur words to express their disappointment with the golfer.
