The game of golf is assorted with all kinds of experiences. If there is a day for you, there surely comes a day against you. Dustin Johnson‘s stroke play in the 2023 US Open till now has been a narrative of the same. The star golfer displayed some brilliant putts that allowed him to sit at T4 at the end of Round 1.

However, the dawn of the Friday tee-time wasn’t exactly in his favor. While one will expect an extreme reaction from any athlete over some of the bad shots, DJ accorded an unconventional response. His reaction was so candid that it even drew out applause from the famous golf instructor Mark Immelman.

The American professional took the golf world by surprise when he shot an amazing 64 on Thursday. His score contained seven phenomenal birdies. To make this exceptional day even more outstanding, DJ, impressively now, shares a record with legendary Tiger Woods. Only the golf G.O.A.T and Johnson have been able to make 10 starts of their career with a score of 65 or better in a major event since 2011.

Despite a remarkable performance, Johnson suffered miserably on the greens in the second round. It is like the course had completely gotten out of control for DJ. Given his antithetical performance from Day 1, the press naturally had a lot of questions related to the same. While one would assume that the golfer was disheartened by his performance and might react more emotionally, DJ gave quite the opposite reaction.

He believed that the game of golf is unpredictable. Hence, his response emerged from quite a logical explanation with a hint of humor. In his words, his bad shot was everything that a golfer could do wrong. Johnson said, “I chunked my bunker shot, chunked the next one, skulled the next one. Everything you could do wrong, I did wrong.

Johnson’s honesty did not only win the fans over, but also received appreciation from one of the popular golf instructors, Mark Immelman. The instructor clearly showed his support for the LIV golfer and called his response “BRILLIANT!” Immelman, evidently, gave one of the best advice, especially during the time of majors.

It’s golf. Sh*t happens! All you can do is laugh it off and give it your best. Onward and upward“, he concluded. The golf enthusiast’s support toward DJ proves that bad days and shots are part of the game. What really matters, in the end, is how you let them define you. The best approach can be to learn and grow from these mistakes.

The terrible quadruple-bogey shot by Dustin Johnson

No one could have anticipated such a turn of events on June 16 for Former World No. 1. After all, Day 1 of the US Open gave the impression that DJ is in for a big game on the LACC course.

His scorecard was the proof of his earnest efforts on Day 1 as he conceded only one bogey. However, things went a little down the hill as Dustin Johnson took the club in his hand on Friday. Simply put, where just a single bogey was shot by the golfer in the first round, the second round bagged quadruple-bogey which meant that DJ shot 4-over par on a hole.

Although, soon after the second hole, Dustin Johnson gained back his momentum. This allowed him to deliver five birdies and not plummet on the leaderboard quite low. Hence, at the end of Day 2, he sits tied at the sixth position with Min Woo Lee at -6 under par. Dustin Johnson still has two more rounds to conquer that top position, currently held by Rickie Fowler, and take home his second US Open championship.
