Did Tiger Woods just prove he's still got it, or was it just a lucky day?

The scramble contest in the PNC Championship always presents some exciting contests and precious moments. We see many top pros team up with their family members to compete with each other. The 2022 edition of the tournament was no different as we saw the father-son team of Vijay Singh and Qass Singh pick up the win. Other great teams like Team Daly and Team Thomas finished tied for 2nd place. But another team that really caught our attention was Charlie Woods and his father, Tiger Woods.

During the post-tournament interview with TenGolf, Charlie was asked about what he learned about his father during the tournament. To that, the protege answered, “I felt like I already knew what he was capable of. And then yesterday, that’s the best he has ever played.” As everyone chuckled at the statement, young Charlie added, “And that kind of shocked me a l’il bit“.

Laughter roared around the room hearing what Charlie Woods had to say about his father’s performance. Adding to the humor, Tiger Woods confirmed the statement by saying, “Yeah… I used to be good.” Quite modest of the legendary golfer, won’t you say? Woods further added, “ It was neat to be able to roll back the clock for him to see what I used to be capable of. I was given some grief.

Following the hilarious reaction to his son’s statement, Tiger Woods also went on to give credit to his former colleague, Jim Bones Mackay. Woods noted, “Anyone that knows what I used to be able to do was Bones. Bones got a big kick out of that yesterday.” He was involved in an accident in February 2021, and while he made a successful recovery and came back to the game, Woods wasn’t the same on the course as he was before.

The accident led to a lot of mental and physical challenges that the former world no. 1 hasn’t been able to recover from ever since. Charlie Woods understands how impactful his father was, but he was still left in awe of his dad’s performance during the scramble championship. He played some amazing strokes during the 2022 PNC Championship. The father and son duo had many more highlights throughout the tournament that helped them secure the T8 spot, besides the two rounds of the 2022 PNC Championship.

Tiger Woods showed glimpses of his former self

What’s your perspective on:

Did Tiger Woods just prove he's still got it, or was it just a lucky day?

Have an interesting take?

Team Woods ended the 2nd round with a score of 124. The team also scored one eagle each in both rounds along with along with 16 birdies. They could have tied for T4 had they not scored the two bogeys in the 7th and 17th holes of the 2nd round. They tied for 8th with Team Spieth and Team O’Meara who who also sported a combination of a father and son duo.

In the end, they had played 6 more strokes than the winning team, Vijay Singh and Qass Singh. This year’s PNC Championship is scheduled for December 20th. However, we won’t have the pleasure of watching the Woods duo this time around. However, we can confirm that the last two winning teams, Team Langer and Team Singh, are surely participating.
