The Irish professional, Shane Lowry, has achieved a brilliant feat in his career, with 7 professional wins, including the Open Championship. He is among the top names in professional golf, all thanks to his consistent performance. Interestingly, despite having irregular victories, the golfer sits close to the leaders, with most of his appearances at the course. The credit for this goes to the golfer’s skill set and experience.
However, away from it, his preference for clubs, too, plays a vital role in helping to achieve such impressive results. Now, with the golfer teeing off with his partner, Rory McIlroy, at the Zurich Classic, the team is aiming to defend its title. But what clubs will he be using? Let’s check what the golfer is carrying in his bag.

Shane Lowry’s first picks at the course
Starting off with the tee shot, the 38-year-old, in order to maintain a great 62.92% driving accuracy and 294.4 yards driving distance, carries the Srixon ZXi with 9 degrees of loft and Diamana 70X shaft. The driver ranks among the top 8 long-distance drivers used by the professional. However, that isn’t the USP, it is the consistent straight hitting. Irrespective of the course, the $549 driver is extremely consistent and forgiving to help golfers achieve distance without leaving the fairway.
After his tried and tested driver, the Irish professional has added a new TaylorMade Qi35 4-wood with a 16.5-degree loft to the bag. The fairway wood is among the most versatile and easy-to-use clubs. Offering superior flight, great spin, and longer distance achievability, the $349 club sits perfectly in the bag. Even the top two golfers currently, McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, use the same fairway wood.

Following the bulky clubs, the PGA pro then has the irons as his savior for the fairway. He uses a Srixon ZXi 3-iron with 20 degrees, ZX5 4-5 irons, and Srixon ZXi 7 paired with the KBS 130 X shaft. For Lowry, these irons have helped him much, as he said, “These help my long iron play a lot.” With a complete range of distance and workability, the Irish pro has kept a strong iron collection. The ZX7 is less forgiving but ideal for certain turf conditions, while the ZX5 is forgiving. The premium-looking irons at $220 per club are a great addition to the bag.
After the great approach strategy, with driver, fairway wood, and the irons, the golfer then chooses the ideal wedges and putter to make all efforts count.

Lowry’s preference for the greens
For the trickiest shot that requires precision, accuracy, and ideal ball mapping, the golfer picks the finest wedges from his bag. He recently made changes in his wedges, as earlier he preferred higher loft wedges, but now for 1.5 months, he has been adapting to a lower loft. The 38-year-old has Cleveland 52/10, 56 RTZ, and 61/8 wedges in his bag. Though the wedges do not offer many grind options, the incredible amount of spin is what has made it unique for Lowry to choose. Priced at $179/ club, it is an ideal option for golfers looking for spin to reach near the cup.
After setting the ball on the greens, for the final shot, the golfer chooses the widely acclaimed TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter. The mallet-shaped classic color combination putter is a versatile option for making the final shot count. Similar to Lowry, McIlroy, and Scheffler prefer the same $349 putter from TaylorMade. To accompany all the shots, the golfer prefers the Srixon Z Star XV ball that excels in offering longer distance coverage with low spin, along with a high spin on the wedge shot.

Besides the clubs and balls, the golfer has also kept some customised golf essentials. He carries customised Ireland flag tees, and a customised shamrock ball marker with “We love you, daddy” written on it by his daughters Iris and Ivy. With such a cute greeting from the family and clubs that suit his gaming style, the golfer is set to achieve exceptional performance. Moreover, with two victories in 2024, he is on a high, but can that continue? Can Shane Lowry help the team defend the Zurich Classic title? What are your thoughts on it?
