Numerous golfers bore the scrutiny of joining the LIV Golf Series last year. But few have been tormented like Spanish professional Sergio Garcia, who has been a poor form of his usual self since. However, the 2017 Masters champion seems to be turning a corner in his latest endeavor in the LIV Golf Singapore event, where he currently stands joint-first. A massive shout-out goes to his crucial support system, which includes his wife and two kids. But who are Garcia’s loved ones, and how have they coped with his troublesome period?

For large parts of his career, Garcia was considered the best player not to win a major championship. The thought had such a profound impact that he once himself claimed that he wasn’t “good enough” after failing to hold onto a final-day lead at the 2012 Masters.

But the arrival of then-American TV reporter Angela Akins changed his life forever. The two met during her days at a major golf media house, which eventually blossomed into a love story. Garcia’s ladylove is a keen golfer herself, having played for the women’s team at the University of Texas. In the early months of 2017, the pair got engaged, which started Garcia’s most triumphant run in his golf career.
Not long after his affiliation, the 43-year-old won the Dubai Desert Classic. But his career’s biggest dream was fulfilled in the initial weeks of April that year when he won his first and only major championship, the 2017 Masters Tournament. The win cemented his spot as a winner of the most prestigious golf competition around, while also removing his unwanted tag of a non-major winner.

With his stars shining brightly, Garcia decided to marry his fiancee in July 2017. The couple have been seen together on various occasions outside the golf course, most notably at college football events in and around the country.
The spiked interest in football can only be traced back to Akins’ family history. Her father, Marty, is a former All-American quarterback for Texas, while her grandfather is also a legendary Texas high school football coach. Furthermore, she is cousins with former New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, who is a Super Bowl winner and secured the MVP award in 2009.
How many children does Sergio Garcia have?
A year after their marriage, the couple celebrated the birth of their first child. Garcia and Akins decide to name their firstborn child Azalea, who is named after the par-5 13th hole at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club.

Two years later, the golf parents shared the news of the delivery of their second child, Enzo, who was born a few days after Easter. With growing age and loss of form, Garcia decided to hang up his PGA Tour membership and join the LIV Golf Series, a decision that led to severe backlash.
Once honored as a Ryder Cup hero, Garcia soon fell out of people’s cheers and became a sorry figure on the golf course. While his seasoned colleagues had a gala time at the Masters recently, the 43-year-old shot seven-over par and failed to make the cut.
However, after a bizarre press conference that seemingly undermined his significance, Garcia rose up from the ashes to claim the top spot in the LIV Golf Singapore event. Ahead of a Sunday showdown, he stays joint top of the leaderboard with a score of thirteen-under par.
