Is the dynamic among the Team Europe members under threat? The 2025 Ryder Cup is only a few months away and things are already heating up! Issues had already begun to creep up with Team U.S. ever since Keegan Bradley was assigned the captaincy. From the compensation for Ryder Cup participation to Bradley’s desire to be a playing captain, the American side has been in the headlines for quite some time.

Things have not been smooth sailing for Team Europe as well. Some of the best European golfers are struggling to qualify on merit due to their LIV Golf commitments. The only player to have risen to the top in this scenario is Tyrrell Hatton. His win at the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic has put him in pole position to make it to the qualifying 6. But the likes of Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia are nowhere at the top.

Speaking of Garcia, he has his own battles with the European squad, particularly Rory McIlroy. The two shared a heated conversation when the former moved to LIV Golf a few years ago. However, Garcia recently gave his honest outtake on the dynamic he shares with other Team Europe members. When it comes to the Ryder Cup, the Spaniard said the most important thing “ is the team and you put your big or small egos away and you know what you’re fighting for,” during an interview with The Times. National pride is more important to Sergio Garcia than any beef with his Ryder Cup teammates, or so it seems.

Garcia also spoke about his post-incident relationship with McIlroy. When asked if he still holds any grudges with the Irishman, he said, “I don’t. I never did. I don’t consider we do anymore. I see Rory here and there and I sent him a couple of texts to say ‘congrats’.” Does that mean that Sergio Garcia will gel along well with other Team Europe players when they meet at Bethpage Black Course? Only time will tell. For now, let’s take a look at who has a shot at making it in the squad.

2025 Ryder Cup featuring Rory McIlroy

As far as Team U.S. goes, some players are practically locked in. This includes the 2024 major winners, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau. Collin Morikawa is next on the points table with around 2200 points more than anyone else under him. The likes of Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth are way down the list with the latter nearly 2000 more points away from the top 6 that also includes Billy Horschel and Russell Henley.

Have an interesting take?

On the European side, the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner; Rory McIlroy sits at the top of the table. He is followed by Tyrrell Hatton, and Rasmus Hojgaard to compile the top 3. Other than them, Shane Lowry, 2025 WM Phoenix Open champion; Thomas Detry, and Matt Wallace make the top 6 on merit. Star player from the 2023 Ryder Cup, Tommy Fleetwood is about 200 points away from the top 6, and Jon Rahm is not far behind the Englishman. Interestingly, Sergio Garcia is not listed as his LIV Golf commitments have kept him away from any events that offer Ryder Cup points.
