Another mystery revealed in the golf world? Well yes! Remember how the 2024 British Open saw some of the best gameplay of the year alongside the worst weather? And everyone saw Billy Horschel not wearing a rain jacket in the rain? Well, the golfer has divulged the reason behind it, and you can never guess what it was!

In a recent interview with Smylie Kaufmann at The Symlie Show on YouTube, while talking about his experience at the Open Championship, Horschel talked about why he was not wearing a rain jacket on the greens while using his driver. And you’ll be surprised to know that the male golfer takes inspiration from the LPGA girls for this. “I‘m a golf fan addict, so I watched a lot of golf, and so I’ve seen these LPGA girls, whether it was rainy or whether it’s cold, like they have this one jacket that they put on, and when they go to hit, they take it off, and then they put it on, and then they put that jacket back on,” said the player.

A lot of people got worried about the 8-time PGA Tour winner as he was getting drenched in rain, but what they didn’t know was that Horchel was one step ahead of them. “And people like, man, you didn’t wear a jacket at all. I said, No, I was. Taken on and off,” he described.

According to Horschel, wearing a rain jacket when trying to hit the ball further can be a lot of hassle, as the jacket limits the golfer’s moments while making a drive. “I said, it just was; it was raining too hard for me not to, you know, not have a jacket on in between shots,”  he continued.

The golfer was seen taking off his jacket before every shot, and his caddie used that jacket as a layer of protection for the clubs. In 2016 as well, it rained pretty hard during the Open, and the golfer turned his hat around so that the water didn’t get into his eyes. He was called out on the internet a lot for this, but he then commented, “I remember I turned my hat backwards about the 14th hole because it was raining so hard,” Then I got blasted on social media for having my hat backward at the Open Championship.” Well, he also did this on Saturday at the Troon this year to keep the water from running off the bill of his cap into his eyes.

As we all know, it was raining cats and dogs at the Royal Troon, so this trick he learned from the LPGA Tour golfers helped him perform well in the last major of the season.

Despite describing it as the worst weather he’s ever played in, the golfer managed to tie at T2 with Justin Rose, while Xander Schauffele secured the trophy. “I love the nastiness,’’ he said, according to the New York Post. And, well, there was plenty of it.

Saturday’s round saw the golfers making their way into the game, utterly frustrated with the weather. However, Horschel was enjoying it as the golfer described it: “I’m going to enjoy it; I’ve worked my entire life to be in this position,” he said. And man, did he enjoy the game?

The golfer was seen showcasing his exceptional skills in the inclement weather, and his hard work paid off when he finished the game with a brilliant score of 7 under par. With the 2024 Wyndham Championship around the corner, Billy Horschel is ready to secure his second win of the season after his incredible victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
