The PGA Tour is now moving on to North Carolina with the Wyndham Championship, taking place at the iconic Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament will be played after the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, where Abraham Ancer took home his first career win. Native golfer Webb Simpson will definitely be a focus for the upcoming Championship, along with Hideki Matsuyama. Let’s take a look at the venue, exploring course details, and more.
While the Wyndham Championship might be crucial, the course also remains iconic. Designed by Donald Ross, Wyndham has been played at Sedgefield 26 times before this – 1938 to 1976. Later, it moved to the Forest Oaks Country Club instead. The championship found its way back to Sedgefield CC in 2008 and has been played there since. Right before that (in 2007), the course was renovated by Kris Spence. It reportedly took $3 million and 10 months to restore, the result being the current par-70, 7117 yards course.

What challenges can one face at the Sedgefield Country Club?
As mentioned above, the Sedgefield Country Club reopened after a thorough 10-month renovation. The renovation was to incorporate golf technology, turfgrass development, and other changes that were required, making sure the course still retained what Ross originally envisioned.
That being said, one needs to focus on “ball placement in the fairway” so they can find the perfect angle to the greens – apparently undulated (wavy) and sloped from back to front. As a result, many shots fall off into the collection areas from the edge.

Particularly demanding holes at Sedgefield CC
While the first two holes of the course seem fairly simple, precision and angles come into play later on. Hole six is seen as the most challenging hole, requiring a shot near the creek. It is a challenging uphill hole, one looking at a large undulated green stretch. Hole nine could also be seen as challenging in its own way, requiring more strategic strokes across a bunker.

Hole 10 is also difficult, as one needs to avoid the deep fairway bunker located to the left. For shorter holes in this course, accuracy remains the primary focus. There’s also hole 15, where avoiding any obstacles remains the key to an easy par.
Let’s a look at the course’s complete yardage.
