Golf as a sport is loved by many, even if they are not professional. The best example of this is the current U.S. President. Donald Trump is a historian of golf, and his love for the game can be seen in the news regularly. He knows every stat of the game, even what the professional golfer, Cam Smith, didn’t know about. In fact, there have been many incidents where fans can observe Trump expressing his love for the game.
Being a 78-year-old, he still is very consistent with the game starting with the tee. His game can be truly appreciated at the Break 50 challenge on Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube Channel. He has also been seen playing with many professionals in the past and also owns many courses across the globe. Cameron Smith was one of the players who got a chance to play with the president last year just before he started campaigning for the 2024 elections. And he shared his unique experience playing with the 47th POTUS.

President Donald Trump has been in the news for his political career and golf games, but it was a completely new experience for the Australian golfer as his story also is for both fans and players to uncover. On a recently released podcast by Mark Bouris, i.e. Straight Talk, Cam Smith shared his life and experiences in depth.
In the early minutes of the podcast, he shared details of his match with Trump, “I have played with him before. I played with him last year. I tell you one thing which was nuts. It was the secret service, it was absolutely mental. And he was the former President at that time. The amount of people that were around was insane.” While further adding to it, he shared that it was a nerve-wracking experience, as he was feared to do anything wrong.

According to author Ronal Kessler, who specializes in the Secret Service, the former president has about 80 agents assigned to him. While for the sitting president and vice president, the number rises to about 300 agents. Surrounded by agents at the course, Cam Smith is not wrong to feel out of place as he describes it.

Describing Donald Trump’s personality and the situation, he cleared it by saying, “But he wasn’t that type of person, he would come up and hug you or give you a high five if you made a birdie. He loves golf. He is like a fiend for golf, he knows every stat. It’s crazy.” Well, Trump’s love for golf can be a great sign for LIV and PGA players.
Can Donald Trump hasten the process of the merger?
With the current state, golf is divided as the LIV players are mostly banned from the PGA Tour. Many players, like Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and others, could participate much more freely in the PGA events after the merger. Even Cameron Smith, who was a PGA Tour player till 2022, is now a LIV player and can only be seen in the major championships. For both the fans and players, it was a major concern to not see all the top players competing at the best courses in the world.

Trump also wanted the same and has said during his campaign that he could fix things in 15 minutes. As per the recent report, Trump invited the PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan to play golf. The four-hour-long game at the Trump International Golf Club might be a step closer to the deal that fans and players are eagerly waiting for.
But it is still a question unanswered. Will Trump be able to close the deal between PGA Tour and LIV Golf? What are your thoughts on the deal’s progress? Can Trump close the long-awaited deal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
