Since LIV Golf was formed, there has been a rift between them and the PGA Tour, which keeps on reigniting with every comment made against each other. And with the Ryder Cup on the horizon, the participation of players from the Saudi backed league are always in question and a matter of debate.

Players who have been finalized to appear in the tournament include current World No. 2, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Peter Perez, Victor Hovland, among others. But the possibility of LIV golfers participating in the event still hangs in the air. Amidst this, PGA loyalist Rory McIlroy’s recent remarks about involving European players in Ryder Cup have invited criticism from fans.

The PGA Tour event happening this week is the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, with a prize purse of $20,000,000. Ahead of the competition a press conference was held at Muirfield Golf Club, where McIlroy was asked about the prospect of having LIV golfers play in the Ryder Cup, to which he answered – “I mean, I certainly think Brooks deserves to be on the United States team. I think with how he’s played, I mean, he’s second in the U.S. standings. I don’t know if there’s anyone else on the, you know, on the LIV roster that would make the team on merit and how they’re playing.”

He further continued “But I have different feelings about the European team and the other side and sort of how that has all transpired and, yeah, I don’t think any of those guys should be a part of the European team”. McIlroy has been a strong agent of criticism for LIV Golf in the past, and has often registered his views about them openly too. But this time he received backlash for his comments and fans came out and criticized him for being so vocal.

Fans feel that McIlroy’s comments on the situation are uncalled for and he should spend his time more wisely focusing on better things.

Criticism or not, McIlroy has never hesitated to give everyone a piece of his mind whenever he felt the need for it.
