Last week, Scottie Scheffler missed his chance at a three-peat victory at the WM Phoenix Open by a few strokes. This week, World No. 1 is chasing the birdies at the Genesis Invitational; however, he’s coming up short. And the reason behind both is just one: Sheffler’s struggles.
The issue was highlighted many months ago at the 2023 British Open. But Scheffler felt that a few bad strokes were taken out of context. And then, when he won the Hero World Challenge in December, fans assumed his putting woes had ended. However, at Riviera CC, the one-time major winner’s short game had become a point of discussion once again!

A new week brought much of the news we were waiting for. From how well Tiger Woods played to who was leading the scoreboard, there was curiosity about everything. But what people might not have expected was that Scottie Scheffler, who is usually placid on the course, lost control of his anger.
The world number one started round one with a 40-foot eagle on hole one. However, for the next 10 holes, Scheffler missed six birdies and made a bogey. Moreover, at the back nine par-4 sixteenth hole, Scheffler missed a birdie putt from under 10 feet and was so enraged by his missed attempts that he was on the verge of breaking his putter. The glimpse of the same was shared by CBS reporter Kyle Porter on X, captioned “Evergreen” behaviors from Scheffler.
Not only this but interestingly, Sky Sports reported that, at one point, Scheffler was so frustrated with his putting that he picked up his ball and threw it on the nearest tree. The frustration relayed by the world number one was certainly noticed by the golf world.

And amidst his mishap at Riviera, an old video of Scheffler started trending, which was shared by Paige Spiranac on X. She shared a video from AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where Scheffler had lost his balance while making a drive. The golf mommy poked fun at Scheffler and said, this is the real “definition of swing your own swing.”

Golf diva was not the only one who noticed Scheffler’s plight on the course. Other members of the golf community did so too, and a lot of people had a lot of things to say about it.
Netizen reacts to Scottie Scheffler losing his cool
Following this, many in the comments box had invested their time to share their two cents on Scheffler’s putting woes and his minor hiccups taken during the rounds.

One fan retweeted Scheffler’s post and declared that his whole set of skills was something out of Greek mythology. On the one hand, he has incredible skill in hitting a ball onto greens, but that will come at the price that when it comes to “close-range putts, he’ll inevitably lose him mind.”
Scottie Scheffler's putting is like something out of Greek myth. The gods have granted him a superhuman ability to hit a golf ball. The price? He'll miss so many close-range putts he'll inevitably lose him mind. https://t.co/spaJtsCdMx

Daniel Rapaport also iterated on the putting issues Scheffler has been struggling with. He revealed that he saw Scheffler stand like that for a minute and pointed out that though Scheffler is leading the field in Tee-to-Green and is comparable to Tiger Woods, his putting puts him 66th out of the 70 players in the field. He stated that Scheffler might not accept it publicly, but his putting problem may probably eat him inside.
Watched him stand in this exact posture for a solid minute on 17 tee. Doesn’t say it publicly but the putting struggles have to be eating at Scottie. He’s playing at almost a prime Tiger level tee-to-green but it’s been the same story every week. 66th in putting today out of 70. https://t.co/W3Vo5h1qbA

One user advised Scheffler that he had to put in some effort, as done by Rickie Fowler and Lucas Glover when they were struggling with putting. Once he passes that obstacle, the world number one might start winning five times a year.
Scottie needs to go Glover or at least Rickie w/ the putter. If he gets into the top 50 in putting he might win 5 times a year. https://t.co/NgajD5MS1W

The fan community dedicated to tracking Scheffler’s schedule also took a subtle dig at his posture while hitting it off the tee. The Tracking Scheffler remarked on his unbalanced shot, saying, “No. 1 Golfer in the World, by the way.” The driving shot might have been one of the rare moments where Scheffler’s legs were a little off at the tee.
No. 1 Golfer in the World, by the way 😅 https://t.co/AbZOxoN1vf

Lastly, this fan called out the shot by Scheffler as “incredible and horrible.” The irony here was the golfer was called incredible and horrible at the same time! Incredible because it probably met the fairway and was horrible because of apparent reason. They predicted that with this speed, Scheffler’s swing would not last five more years.
Incredible and horrible at the same time. No way this swing lasts five more years.
