If there’s anything better than the amazing athletes in the sports industry, it’s their coaches. We mean they’re called the coaches for a reason right? Well, that’s exactly the case with the World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, who is just in awe of his coach Randy Smith and he has a good reason to be. One reason why Scheffler can never talk highly enough about Smith is because of how well his techniques are.
So, it’s safe to say that for Scheffler, Smith is no short of a genius when it comes to the game of golf and we got to hear about it from the golfer himself in his latest interview with Golf’s Subpar. “I mean it’s Randy – he’s totally out of his mind, but when it comes to the golf swing like I mean, he is such a genius, said the golfer, while talking about his coach. Scheffler also dropped a skill Smith has that is surely one of a kind. According to Scheffler, Smith has this amazing ability to know exactly what’s going on with the golfer’s game. But you may think ‘How’s that even possible’? Well, it is and let us tell you how.
Before the President’s Cup, the golfer decided to put Smith’s skills to the test. He made a tiny tweak to his swing without giving Smith any hints. And what did Smith do? He watched Scottie hit five balls and then nailed the exact change he made. “I was out there before the President’s Cup, and I remember telling Randy, ‘Hey, I’m trying something here, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. I want to see if you can figure it out.’ And he watched me hit like five balls, and then he pointed out exactly what I was doing”, said the golfer.

But did Smith’s technique help Scheffler in the actual game? Yes, it sure did! During the 2024 Masters, Scheffler was struggling with his swing but then Smith stepped in and offered a simple fix, which was to adjust his grip and then boom! Scheffler took home the trophy and $3.6 million prize money. He also helped Team USA win the 2024 Presidents Cup and secured $25 million in prize money which effectively pushed his season earnings to a whopping $62.3 million. While this may be something, you already know, what you might not know is that Smith has been with the golfer ever since he was a kid!
