Ted Scott and Bubba Watson spent 15 long years together. With Scott on his bag, Watson had a good run, including winning two majors and 15 PGA Tour events. However, in 2021, Watson was struggling with health injuries which affected his game significantly. That was when they decided to part ways mutually; “I’m 43 years old. I don’t know what I’m going to do. My wrist is killing me. He is like he needs ten more years, and I gave him—II felt like a nice retirement package when we split up, but we split up mutually.”
Although the duo has parted ways, they still share a good relationship. Nonetheless, as Bubba Watson chose Gabe Sauer as his caddie when he switched to LIV Golf, Ted Scott had a different story awaiting.

In a recent episode of Golf’s Subpar, Ted Scott revealed how it was only because of Scottie Scheffler that he once again took up the caddying job. “I was trying to retire for the third time from caddying. And I got another phone call, so you know it just keeps coming back to me.” Well, the decision turned out great for Teddy, as in 2024, he earned a whopping $5.2 million!
Scott shared that the only reason he even attended the call was because a friend had told him that he would be getting a call from one of the best golfers. However, this friend also told Scott, “He’s an even better person, and I think you ought to consider it.” Scott and Watson were partners with Scheffler during one of the Zurich Classics, and so he already knew how good of a person he was. However, he did not know how good of a player the World No. 1 was. “I didn’t follow his junior career or college career or any of that,” mentioned Scott.
But he ended up taking the word of his friend, and after pondering over it with his family for two weeks, he officially started caddying in late 2021. But it did not take him much time to figure out that Scheffler was special. “The first week at RSM I was like, wow, this guy can play,” said Ted Scott. Their first RSM classic together was in 2022. While Scheffler settled for a T57 finish, with disappointing second and third rounds. He did have a great opening and finishing rounds. On Thursday, he went completely bogey-free and carded 7-under 63. And in the finale, he bagged a 2-under 68.
