We all know Rory McIlroy’s exceptional golf skills, and he proved them once again by winning the DP World Tour Championship for the third time and claiming his sixth Race to Dubai title, matching legendary Spaniard Seve Ballesteros’ record. With a thrilling birdie on the par-4 16th hole, McIlroy broke a deadlock with Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard and sealed the victory with another birdie on the par-5 18th, finishing 15-under par and earning a $3 million prize plus a $2 million bonus.
Overcome with emotion, McIlroy praised Ballesteros’ legacy, saying it’s “really cool” to be mentioned alongside him, and reflected on his perseverance through a challenging year. But this might not be enough for the golfer to remain on top, according to one ex-PGA Tour pro. In the latest episode of the Smyliee Kaufman show on YouTube the former golfer was seen talking about McIlroy and other golfers among many things with Charlie Hulme. Smylie Kaufman shared his thoughts on Rory McIlroy’s ambitions, highlighting his desire to win major championships. McIlroy’s recent DP World Tour Championship victory showcased his determination, but Kaufman believes he’s aware of the level he needs to reach to compete with top players. “There’s that desire to you know just go out and win major championships, I know that’s what he wants to do”, he said.
Kaufman noted that McIlroy knows he must elevate his game to beat players like Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, who have figured it out and consistently demonstrate exceptional ball-striking. McIlroy is focusing on out-striking his rivals, recognizing the importance of this aspect in overcoming the challenge posed by younger players in their prime. “ But I think he knows what level he has to get to and the players that we’re talking about at the top like Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, younger guys, prime of their career and have figured it out and I think he knows, like “Hey, I gotta elevate my game if I wanna beat these guys”, he continued.

Rory McIlroy has his eyes set on 2025
Rory McIlroy has his sights set on 2025, driven by the success of Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. The two golfers won two majors each, separating themselves from the pack and catching McIlroy’s attention. “You’ve got two guys at the top of the world rankings down there winning two majors,” McIlroy noted.
McIlroy is motivated to emulate Scheffler and Schauffele’s achievements. Their impressive performances have raised the bar, and McIlroy is eager to respond. “They certainly separated themselves from the pack this year. I’m obviously very aware of that, and it only makes me more motivated to try to emulate what they did this year,” he said.
