Since Scottie Scheffler clinched the #1 ranking, the golf world has been obsessed with him. Lately, he has been off the course. The reason? A Christmas palm injury left him with a punctured right hand due to broken pieces of glass. The injury was so severe that Scheffler had to take a back seat from playing the 2025 opening PGA Tour events. Currently, he is on the 27th day of his recovery, out of the field until Pebble Beach, and is yet making the headlines.
A recent post by NUCLR Golf revealed some impressive stats. Scheffler has surpassed Rory McIlroy’s record, spending 123 weeks as the world’s top golfer. Scheffler first got to number 1 on March 28, 2022. McIlroy was #1 for 122 weeks. This achievement is undoubtedly impressive, but it’s worth noting that Scheffler still has a long way to go to match the all-time greats.
For instance, Tiger Woods, an 84-time PGA Tour winner, spent an incredible 13 years at the top. Woods holds the record for most total weeks (683) and consecutive weeks (281) as the top OWGR ranker. Scheffler has often spoken about Woods in awe, recognizing the significant gap between his achievements and Woods’ incredible legacy. Scheffler humbly acknowledged, “I mean, the guy stands alone, I think, in our game.”

Scottie Scheffler is on the spot to take on Tiger Woods’ OWGR record
A glimpse into his preparation also came out on January 19th, when a video surfaced showing Scheffler in an intense workout session. The video was originally shared by Dr. Troy Van Biezen, Scheffler’s performance coach. Scheffler‘s hand looked pain-free as he pushed himself holding the gym equipment during the training session.
As the saying goes, “Trust the process, celebrate the success,” Scheffler seems to be embodying this mindset. And it’s no surprise he will win again, given his long-standing partnership with Dr. Van Biezen. Since Scheffler was 14, Biezen has been by his side through all the ups and downs. Together, they’ve developed a comprehensive training program that includes metabolic training, hypertrophy and strength training, and cardiovascular exercises like speedball work, skiers, rowers, and Wattbike.
