Scottie Scheffler is back to being his old self! No, we’re not talking about the Player of the Year, Olympic Gold medalist from 2024. Scheffler has been far from his persona last season. The fact is, the world #1 has been incredibly inconsistent since returning from his wrist injury. The Christmas curse that he carried along with his puncture wound just doesn’t seem to go away. And there is no medicine to cure bad strokeplay.
Scheffler has only managed two top 10 finishes and the other two within the top 25 in the 4 events he has played in 2025. To any other golfer, that might seem like a dream run. But Mr. Inevitable is not just any other golfer. There is a reason he is the top player. Scheffler is used to competing in every event he participates in. But that has not been the case this year at all. In fact, the drama slayer has struggled to even rank within the top 10 in 2025.
And when Scottie Scheffler is not winning the title, he is extremely annoyed. The 2x Masters Tournament winner has been seen throwing tantrums on the course. He has also given some “snarky” interviews. In fact, the last time the reporters talked to him, Scheffler also went on to bad mouth his peers, calling Rory McIlroy‘s strokeplay “boring”. The irony may not have hit the 13x PGA Tour winner, but frustration has definitely caught up to him.

That was the topic of discussion for the No Laying Up podcast on YouTube. DJ, Soly, and KVV covered the latest episode of the famous golf show as they discussed the latest stories from THE PLAYERS Championship 2025. Midway through the podcast, Soly brought up Scottie Scheffler’s “putting woes”. He mentioned how they are “creeping back in” to his usual strokeplay. “Lot of b***hy energy from Scottie. He missed a par putt on three and I just overheard him talking to (Ted) Scott. He was just b***hin. Just like ‘I would f**king love a lip out!’ He’s yelling about one actually being close. ‘I can’t even sniff a lipout’,” said Soly as he imitated the world #1 recreating his conversation with his caddie at TPC Sawgrass in the second round.
The reporter mentioned how Scheffler didn’t care about the “cameras and mics nearby”, but Scheffler didn’t care about that. Talking about another incident in the round, Soly recollected the PGA Tour pro’s “horrible second shot on seven from the right bunker and went way left.” Frustrated with his mistake, Scheffler smacked his golf bag with his club. He ended up breaking the aluminum water bottle of water packed in his bag.

Seems like Scheffler’s episodes of throwing tantrums are becoming increasingly frequent. Could this lead to his continued failure on the course? Let’s see how Scottie Scheffler has fared when he was used to giving in to his anger issues in the past.

Scottie Scheffler’s anger issues hinder his goals in golf
The calm and composed demeanor of Scottie Scheffler in 2024 was not how he carried himself during the early years of his professional career. Before he became one of the best golfers in the world, Scheffler was another amazing player who couldn’t control his emotions. He used to often let out his frustration on the course, which diverted his attention away from the bigger picture. In fact, Ted Scott had asked him to manage his anger issues better if he wanted the veteran caddie on board. Scott spoke about the same during an episode of the latest season of Netflix’s Full Swing.

Is Scottie Scheffler's temper the real obstacle to reclaiming his top form in golf?
Have an interesting take?
Going back to the Scheffler before Scott, he was yet to win his first PGA Tour title. Having turned pro in 2018, the 2x major winner didn’t find any success till 2022. It was only after Scheffler started managing his temper better and had Ted Scott on board did he actually began his winning stream. And in the 3 years since, Mr. Inevitable has managed to win 13 PGA Tour titles, 7 of which came in 2024 alone. He became a 2x green jacket winner and the first person to win THE PLAYERS Championship in back-to-back seasons. That is why Scottie Scheffler going back to his past self might be a major issue for his future in golf.
