The Showdown is going to be exciting! What confirms it? Well, the banter for starters. Rory McIlroy expressed his wish to go against Bryson DeChambeau to avenge what happened at Pinehurst. “I’d like to go up against Bryson to try to get him back for what he did to me at the U.S. Open,” McIlroy said.  To which DeChambeau sarcastically responded, “To be fair, you kind of did it to yourself.” This did garner a lot of attention! It was all in fun humor. But something not-sp-funny, and unintentional at the Shadow Creek Golf Course caught the eye too.

According to the reports of the on-course reporter, Bryson DeChambeau’s errant tee shot on the second hole ended up unintentionally hitting a patron. Well, the patron was none other than #1 Scottie Scheffler’s father, Scott Scheffler. While his father was pretty much unbothered by the incident, it did not go unnoticed by the spectators.

Kenny Kims took to his official X account and posted a picture with Scott Scheffler and reported, “Bryson hit Scottie’s dad with his tee shot. I hate Bryson now. Mr. Scheffler and I are boys.” Scottie Scheffler’s father is a stay-at-home dad, and time and again the World No. 1 has mentioned how he gets his calm nature from his father. Taking to this, Kim also added, “Seriously, Scottie’s dad was one of the nicest people I’ve met. Took this day 1 of PC. Every time he saw me the rest of the week, he said hello and started a conversation with me. Pure class.”

While this was taken up as a rather light moment by the players themselves, as it turns out, the golf community did not take it pretty well. Pretty much like Kenny Kims.

The golf community calls the shot a personal attack

Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau have played two matches at the Ryder Cup. They won one and lost the other. But one certain thing was the fact that they had bonded during the Ryder Cup week. They also had fun interactions officially on their social media platforms. However, in 2022, with the inception of LIV Golf, Bryson DeChambeau was among the first few players to join the league but Scottie Scheffler stayed back.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Bryson's tee shot really 'miss' the mark, or was it a calculated move against Scottie?

Have an interesting take?

This disagreement has been going on pretty much for two years now, making the players of the two leagues said rivals. Some of the fans speculated that this was not an accident. Bryson DeChambeau wanted to take revenge on the PGA Tour Pro and get back at him. And that is why he pulled off the stunt. They left comments like, “Bryson hit Scottie’s dad with his errant tee shot… Already trying personal attacks???” and “Bryson just hit Scottie Scheffler’s dad with an errant tee shot on the second hole. You cannot make this stuff up.”

However, for some fans, this was just the publicity stunt Scottie Scheffler needed to once again put down the LIV golfers. DeChambeau, since the beginning, has played a rather important role in trying hard to reduce the hatred for the league. But the recent incident can easily take things south, getting all of DeChambeau’s efforts in the past years to waste. Taking to this, one of the fans put up a funny GIF of a man wearing a dartboard around his head and wrote, “What a dart by Scottie.”

While another fan, being a diplomat did not reveal which side he is on. He simply wrote, “lol strategic”, summarising the entire situation.
