In an interview during TOUR Championship, Scottie Scheffler revealed he had a weird injury at the Open. He believes the injury might cost him the chance at the Claret Jug. It turned out to be a pilonidal cyst. In the interview, he gave a little too much information than actually needed about his injury, which was unexpected.
He blamed the injury for his bad performance. He could not play properly because he was in pain. Explaining the injury, he said, “Probably TMI, but I had what’s called a pilonidal infection. It’s an infection at the top of your bu** crack. You can look it up. It was really hard for me to bend down. It was really hard for me to make a swing on Sunday. Walking was actually extremely difficult.”
“I don’t know if any of you have ever had something like that, but if you talk to someone that does, it is excruciatingly painful. It was brutal. It’s one of those things that just happens,” he added.

After the information given by Scottie, the interviewer was curious to know about its current condition. He asked Scottie if he could explain what happened and how he took care of it. Scottie finally found the wisdom to not reveal any further.
A pilonidal cyst happens when hair punctures the skin and it later becomes infected. Thankfully, a member of the DP World Tour’s medical team performed a procedure on Scottie on Sunday. They did this procedure at St. Andrews and it helped him to release some of the pressure. Still, it took an extra week for the pain to subside.
