Anyone who follows golf has certainly heard of Scottie Scheffler of late. After all, the 26-year-old has been tearing up almost every golf course that he has set foot on recently. The world no. 1 is unquestionably the best in the world right now, and his recent 17-below-par victory at the Players Championship stands testament to that. But that win also brought something a lot more prestigious than the whopping $4.5 million prize money. It pushed him into an elite cohort, where he joined legends, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
Scheffler seals his name alongside the golf legends
Recently, the one-time major winner left the TPC Sawgrass golf course with the Players Championship trophy. Having played a spectacular match, the golf pro won by a huge 5-stroke lead to win golf’s so-called “5th major.” Additionally, he is also the reigning Masters champion, and that’s exactly what makes him a part of Woods’ and Nicklaus’ elite cohort!

Before Sunday, the 15 and 18-time major winners were the only two golfers in the history of the sport to hold both the Masters trophy as well as the Players Championship at the same time. And with his 2022 Masters win and last week’s Players Championship win, Scottie has now officially joined the league of extraordinary gentlemen!
Nicklaus, of course, was the first to do so when he won the first-ever Players Championship in 1994 and the Masters in 1995. And taking things to the next level, the 73-time PGA Tour winner won the Players once more in 1996. Woods accomplished the extraordinary feat in 2001 when he won both events in the same season just weeks apart. It was also the same year he achieved his famous ‘Tiger Slam’.
