Scheffler vs. Schauffele: Who's got the edge heading into the Paris Olympics?

Xander Schauffele or Scottie Scheffler, Who’s your pick as the best player of the 2024 season? One went from 0 major wins to 2 major wins this year, and the other has 6 wins to his name, including one major. Now that the major season is over, the Olympics are upon us, and the enthralling golf showdown awaits, America’s best are representing the nation to bring in the gold. One other thing that fans truly cannot wait for is to know who might become the POY on the PGA Tour! At the end of every year, the PGA Tour awards the Jack Niklaus ‘Player of the Year’ title based on the voting of fans.

Yes, it’s undoubtedly true the performance of the particular golfer plays a significant role but the community plays the main role since the winner is decided by voting. Coming to Le Golf National, Scheffler was asked, “Xander has made a really significant push, and do you see that as some kind of a Player of the Year race or things like that that you probably don’t care about?” in a press conference.

Responding to this question, #1 said, “I try not to think about it. I’ve had a pretty good year and Xander has had a pretty about year as well.” However, Scheffler was not done with this remark. he knew what played an integral role in the decision after all, and in 6 simple words, said, “It’s for people to vote on.” The golfer then continued, “I’m proud of the year that I’ve had and the consistent results,” distancing himself from the debate against Xander Schauffele while admiring his performance.

The admiration for the two-time major winner from Scheffler didn’t stop there, as he further added “Xander is another player that’s extremely consistent. I love seeing people like him have success because he does it the right way. He works hard. He’s not full of himself.”

Despite the competition and race on OWGR, the #1 golfer respects Schauffele. Interestingly, in the POV of Scheffler, Xander Schauffele is still the same as a person as he said, “We were praying a practice round today and I was actually thinking about it like, man, Xander is the exact same today after winning the tournament as he was if he had lost the tournament by one. Like he was the exact same person.”

Scheffler won the award for the 2022–23 season and became the first player to win Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons since Tiger Woods won the award in three straight years from 2005–07. He appears to respect Schauffele both as a fellow golfer and as a person. But what about Schauffele? Does he feel the same way?

Surprisingly, Schauffele feels the same about Scheffler, be it in terms of performance or as a person. During THE PLAYERS Championship this year, the two-time major champion talked about it on the PGA Tour radio on X. At that time, the #1 golfer was dominating the greens and just after winning the Masters, he won THE PLAYERS and Schauffele was asked about his thoughts on that and whether he can beat him.

Not only THE PLAYERS but at the time of the PGA Championship, when Scheffler was arrested, Xander Schauffele admired him as a person and said “Scottie is a really good guy. I know him fairly well now – competing against him and sharing a physio table with him. I know he’s a good dude and there is no mal intent meant by him.”  Overall, they both seem to be sharing a healthy bond.
