Scottie Scheffler is in for an intense battle to defend THE PLAYERS Championship title. With Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele churning out birdies every other hole, the world number one has to pull out his best performance to secure a wire-to-wire win at the Star Wars Stadium Course.
Though the event is the challenge itself, another thing that has intensified it is the sudden neck issue Scheffler has been struggling with. With the pain in his neck, title defense has become more hectic than before. However, despite the struggle, Scheffler hopes to have better results and recover soon.

It was apparent that Scottie Scheffler was struggling as he played the second round at the 50th PLAYERS Championship. In between his shots, he was seen getting neck massages. The scene had created a bit of concern that Scheffler might withdraw from the event. The 27-year-old explained his issue at the post-round conference on Saturday and iterated, “If I turn my head, right there is where I start feeling pain. It’s not going to make it any worse. If anything, today playing golf may have loosened it up a touch, which is great news really.”
The world no. 1 went on to expanded on the situation, the state of his injury and stated, “This morning I woke up feeling better than yesterday, and hopefully I’ll feel even better tomorrow.” Interestingly, Scheffler wasn’t aware of what caused the pain and expressed that such injuries and occurrences do crop up and are a part of being a golfer. However, he has taken a cold plunge, and his doctor, Marnus, has been actively working to resolve his pain. Further, Scheffler was asked about the Masters, which is only three weeks away: will the injury cause a hassle till then?
Scheffler explained that he has recovered from similar pain before. So, he relayed, “My guess is tomorrow I’ll hopefully be feeling better, and I’m sure I’ll be back to normal by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.” Hopefully, there will not be a struggling Scheffler at the 2024 Masters.
And with a T6 finish after round three, Scheffler is surely putting up a tough fight for the title of THE PLAYERS Championship. There are only 18 holes left for the Dallas resident to make history at the Stadium Course by winning the PLAYERS Championship in a back-to-back season, which he might be able to achieve if round four falls just how he wants. Having said that, after the 50th PLAYERS Championship, the PGA Tour will be moving 200 miles to the opposite side of Ponte Vedra Beach. Will the World No. 1 tee off at the Copperhead Course?
