Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler’s friendship was put on hold during their fiery clash at the Presidents Cup. Despite ultimately losing 3&2, Kim made it clear that his desire to beat the World No. 1 was intense, saying “I want to beat him so bad.” The Korean golfer acknowledged that their aggressive exchanges were all in good fun, consistent with their competitive dynamic back home in Dallas.
Kim’s passion for the event and his International teammates fueled his emotional display on the course. He defended his behavior, emphasizing that he was fighting for his team, not just himself. Kim’s determination was evident throughout the match, even as Team USA dominated 5-0. While some interpreted his actions as disrespectful, Kim maintained that he was simply focused on his own game, unwilling to let distractions hinder his performance.
As it turns out, seems like their rivalry is far from over, as they’ve dragged a 16-year-old prodigy into this too. While having a conversation with Russel, Scottie Scheffler mentioned Tom Kim taking a jab at the golfer by saying that he and another junior golfer were around the same age. “You and Tom Kim are about the same age”, said the golfer. The fans seemed to love the indirect dig at Kim and said, “You and Tom Kim are about the same age” is so funny”, while another fan said, “Hahaha same age as Tom Kim”. Well, Kim is fairly young at 22 but he’s nowhere near Russel’s age however, many do believe that the golfer does not show the kind of etiquette that the game demands.

Take the example of this Presidents Cup again, Kim’s immaturity was on full display during Thursday’s fourballs. After cupping his ears to provoke the crowd, he failed to find the fairway, instead hitting trees down the right flank. Later, his over-the-top celebration of a 30-foot putt was quickly dampened when Scottie Scheffler drained a similar putt to have the hole.

But the real controversy erupted on the 8th hole. After sinking a birdie putt, Kim and partner Sung-jae Im walked off to the 9th tee without waiting for Scheffler to finish his putt. This move was labeled “disrespectful” and “bush league” by commentators and fans alike. As PGA Tour commentator Paul McGinley noted, “You simply do not walk off a green when someone else is putting out. It’s called golf etiquette.” And you know what happened after that. However, many don’t know but Scheffler and Kim used to be best buddies.
