Scottie Scheffler was not even in the top 3 after the third round. Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm were vying for the lead. However, Scheffler carded nine birdies to take the lead in the final round. He finished with a total of 265, 19-under-par, and secured the gold for America. Scheffler now holds two major titles and one Olympic gold.
He was overjoyed, with recent reports revealing that his accomplishment moved him to tears. Recently @CPowers14, a staff writer at Golf Digest, shared a video on X captioning “You literally cannot put a price on this,” with multiple emojis of America’s flag. The video featured the gold medalist Scottie Scheffler. As the national anthem of the USA continued during the medal ceremony, Scheffler joined in singing.
Shortly after, the emotional moment caught him up. Moreover, the reaction on his face is self-explanatory, as he was overjoyed and couldn’t control his tears. The #1 golfer won six tournaments this year including his second major at the Augusta National. The golfer wasn’t brought to tears despite claiming the prestigious green jacket. That alone explains everything about his emotions, love for his country, and the astounding pride while standing atop the podium.

Scheffler was not part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where Xander Schauffele won gold for the United States. With Scheffler’s latest achievement, America has two golds in the men’s Olympic golf. While many expected Jon Rahm or Schauffele to win this time, how did Scheffler take over?

Scheffler finished his first round with 67 thanks to his four birdies. While you might think it’s a good start, Schauffele carded seven birdies and finished with 65. Coming to the second round, it still wasn’t looking good for Scheffler. He carded four birdies and one double bogey and finished with 69. By that time, Tommy Fleetwood led the charge thanks to his one eagle and six birdies. The real action began in the third round.
Fleetwood shot a 69 thanks to his three birdies and one bogey. Meanwhile, Rahm shot a 66 and Schauffele shot 68. As for Scottie Scheffler, he finished with 67 and was slowly closing in, but still wasn’t on top of the leaderboard. As the final round began, the battle between Spain’s Jon Rahm and America’s Xander Schauffele continued to take the lead. However, then started Scheffler’s sensational final round.
He made three consecutive birdies on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd holes, which helped him steadily close the gap. In the final holes, Scheffler made additional birdies on the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th, finishing with a 62 to overtake several players ahead of him and claim the gold medal for himself.
