Scottie Scheffler is no stranger to Dallas. He has been living here since he was 6. So it is no wonder that the PGA Tour event at Dallas is the one where he resembles the classic Scheffler, who dominated the Tour last year. The CJ Cup Byron Nelson has proved to be the most comfortable event this year for the #1, who looks destined to win his 14th event on the Tour. The three words that come to mind after his performance: Right at home.

Currently, the two-time Masters Champion holds a six-stroke lead heading to the final two rounds of play. At his home event, it all started well for him. He tied the lowest course record of the first 9 holes in R1. The momentum went well into Friday’s play, too. Overall, Scheffler has carded 18 under par with two eagles and 14 birdies in just 36 holes. That is tied for the second-lowest 36-hole score to start a tournament at the TPC Craig Ranch. A six-stroke lead is not the deal breaker. What is scary is the fact that the world No. 1 is playing without missing a step.

Speaking to the press after his brilliant day 2, Scheffler admitted that he feels that everything is in the right place for a change. “I feel like my game’s in a good spot. I feel like I’m trending in the right direction,” the University of Texas at Austin grad stated. Ever since returning from his wrist surgery, Scheffler has recorded decent top-10 finishes. Even came close to winning at the Houston Open but lost to Min Woo Lee. So, for him to feel his game is just right, 2 weeks before the PGA Championship is great! Although he is missing next week’s Truist Championship, it would have been exhilarating to see Scottie carry his momentum at the $20M event.

At TPC Craig Ranch, Scheffler has not carded a single bogey so far, despite there being a tremendous rain delay (nearly 6 hours). The delay could have knocked the momentum out of any other golfer’s approach to the second day but not this guy. Scheffler was at an even par score after eight holes when the rain delay occurred. He proceeded to card an eagle at the first chance he could, right after the rain. Talk about making a statement. “Today I had two really solid days of golf, and I’m looking forward to getting out tomorrow and trying to execute some more shots,” Scheffler added.

Shockingly, 18 golfers were yet to start their second round at the TPC Craig Ranch after play was suspended due to bad light (after the delay caused by rain), something thankfully, Scheffler was not a part of. But yeah, solid two days indeed for Scottie!

So far, he has looked far from his best self, which was on display last year, with wins like the Masters and the Olympics. He even became the first golfer ever to defend his PLAYERS Championship title. The world No. 1 missed nearly a month because of the ravioli incident, but he continues to stay calm.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Scottie Scheffler maintain his lead and prove he's the undisputed king of the PGA Tour?

Scottie Scheffler remains calm despite the huge lead

Scheffler has high standards for himself. So do the fans. So, it’s only fair that he is looking to maintain his focus and carry the good performance from the first two days to the weekend as well.

“Going into the weekend, I’m just going to do my best to stay focused and execute. It’s going to be a lot of fun to play here and have a chance to win. I put myself in a good position the last two days, and I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing again tomorrow,” the Dallas resident stated.

Do you think Scheffler can weather the storm, both literally and metaphorically, and see the CJ Cup Byron Nelson to the end and kickstart another impressive winning campaign on the PGA Tour, just like last year?
