Sam Burns had an exceptional 2022-23 season, celebrating the President’s Cup victory and winning the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play. Despite failing to make the cut for five events, he was consistent with his gameplay. After making it to the Ryder Cup through the captain’s picks, Burns landed in Rome to play alongside his buddy Scottie Scheffler.

The world number one and Sam have known each other since they were teenagers. The friends and their wives all travel together from time to time. Both players bond over their love for faith and support each other in downfalls. As Scottie Scheffler made it to the Ryder Cup through his ranking, Sam was captain Zach Johnson’s choice.

Few people have credited his selection to his friendship with Scottie and criticized him immensely. When asked about his thoughts on the criticism, Sam said, “Scottie and I aren’t really friends. I don’t know where people come up with that. We actually don’t even really like each other.”

The golfer later clarified that he was “just kidding.” Furthermore, the five-time PGA Tour winner commenting on his friendship with Scheffler said, “We’re great friends. Our wives are great friends. I imagine we’ll be friends as long as we’re alive. I don’t really know what you’re talking about, to be honest.” It seems that the player is not concerned about the speculations from the community, and his friendship with Scottie has nothing to do with selection.
