Saquon Barkley just wrapped up what might be the greatest season ever for an NFL running back, shattering Terrell Davis’ record with an incredible 2,504 rushing yards and adding a Super Bowl ring for good measure. With the offseason finally here, you’d think he’d be focused on resting and recovering, but no, Barkley has set his sights on something else: breaking 80 (going a maximum of 5 over par) on the golf course. Yes, the Eagles star tweeted that if he doesn’t break 80 this offseason, he might have to quit golf entirely. Talk about a bold goal! Right!

Before competing at the Super Bowl, Saquon Barkley shared what he learned from golf. “K-I-S-S, keep it simple, stupid. Don’t try to do too much. Sometimes as a running back, you can allow your eyes to get messy, to get sloppy. So I think that’s my biggest thing and then I would say real vs feel. There will be times that I will feel something while I am running the ball, the same way how you feel on a golf shot. I am talking like I really know what I am talking about. I am like a 15 handicap by the way. It sounds great but–just using that while I am running. How I get to lock in my core. How I get to firing my legs when I am running. Feel vs real. Those would be my two takes,” he said.

Considering he’s currently a 15 handicap, breaking 80 is no small feat, especially since only 5% of golfers manage to break 80 on a regulation course. But that was when LIV Golfer Bryson DeChambeau put on his golf influencer personality and tried to influence Barkley for something else.

Sharing Barkley’s tweet, The Scientist invited him to his YouTube Series Break 50, and commented, How about we just Break 50 together.” Well, the trick might have worked out. Who would say no to playing a round of golf with the 2x US Open winner if he truly is a golf fan? And well, the Eagle star did the same. He replied, “Just say the word!! I’m kinda rusty.. was a little busy.”

Barkley or not, there is no doubt that the Crushers GC captain has been doing his job very efficiently in promoting the game through this challenge, be it inviting Phil Mickelson or POTUS Donald Trump. And well, the offer to Barkley might as well be sent on a serious note, given he just announced the onset of yet another new season.

Can Saquon Barkley break 80 in golf, or should he stick to breaking NFL records?
