Sam Burns has a total of five PGA Tour wins to his name so far. Interestingly, he won all of them while working with Travis Perkins as they have been together for more than 5 years now. However, his 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge victory comes with an interesting story.
Two years ago, Travis Perkins, was on the Caddie Network YouTube channel and talked about Burns’s Charles Schwab Challenge win. Along with the title, the golfer also won the 1979 Schwab Firebird, which is a custom-built Firebird car. After Burns won the tournament, his caddie was in a hurry as he had a flight to catch, and Burns’s dad was there. While Burns was stretching, his dad casually said, “I am taking that car, so I don’t know what’s gonna happen with it. It looked pretty sweet.” So yeah, the car was not really stolen but his father borrowed it for a drive!
In the tournament, Sam Burns fired a 5-under 65 in the final round of the tournament, finishing at 9 under par to force a playoff against Scottie Scheffler. After the intense final round, it took an additional two hours, but Burns ultimately defeated Scheffler on the first extra hole, No. 18. By the end, he was exhausted, “I’m pretty exhausted, Mentally I was prepared to go as long as it took. I don’t know if I could have done it physically. But mentally I was ready. When coach calls your name, you’ve got to be ready to play, and I think we did a really good job of being ready,” said Burns as per PGA Tour.
