‘Couldn’t Care Less’: Having Witnessed the ‘Tiger Woods Mania,’ Up Close, PGA Tour Pro Vents the Drawback of Being Paired With Him

Even if you are unfamiliar with the sport of golf, Tiger Woods is a name you cannot miss hearing. With fifteen major championships and 82 professional wins under his belt, Woods is without a doubt one of the top golfers in the world. His brilliance in the current PGA Championship will undoubtedly be missed by viewers due to his injury and ensuing surgery, but his name won’t be forgotten that easily.

Though it is still the dream of many young golfers to at least play a game with Woods, the American pro golfer who is currently playing in the PGA Championship is head over heels for his pairing with Woods. And he is not shy talking about it.

26-year-old PGA Tour Pro on Tiger Woods’ popularity

Sam Burns’ career has featured some remarkable moments. He has won five PGA Tour championships. Burns experienced the most nerve-wracking moment in his life when Tiger Woods paired with him in the Honda Classic Championship round in 2018.

In a recent Smylie Show podcast with Sam Kaufman, he discusses his experience. He talked about the uproar that broke out when the GOAT arrived at the first tee at PGA National.

“So we got to the tee we warm up and a walk up to the First Tee. And there’s I mean, it seemed like 10,000 people are standing up there. And maybe like Caroline and like my parents clap for me and everybody else like has no idea who I am. They couldn’t care less. And then Tiger walks on the tee. And it’s just like, I mean, it’s like, that’s Valley like, they just scored a touchdown and it’s so loud.”

Not only did the audience go wild, but Burns himself found it hard to comprehend that he would be playing alongside Woods. The 14th-ranked player claimed that he learned of his partnership with Woods while out to dinner. He was so pleased that he couldn’t even eat or sleep.“I go out the next day, and I get to the golf course probably way earlier than I should have. I couldn’t sleep; I couldn’t do anything,” said Burns.

Every new golfer would have the same reaction if they knew they were going to play with the legend himself. And this is not the first time the GOAT has mesmerized golfers.

Woods went on to mesmerize a Polish Golfer

Polish golfer Adrian Meronk, a rising DP World Tour player, won twice during the 2022–2023 European Tour season. This month, he won the DS Automobiles Italian Open. He is faring well and has a bright future, but for him, the highlight of his professional life was running into Tiger Woods at the Open Championship the year before.

Following his victory at Marco Simone Golf Club, Meronk talked to The Independent. He claimed that last year; he played the Old Course’s 10th hole with Woods and his now ex-caddie, Joe LaCava. Despite being anxious, he added that after three holes they chatted, and he felt considerably lighter.

The Hall of Famer allegedly provided Meronk with some sound advice during the back nine rounds. He didn’t say what Woods said, but he felt fortunate to be playing on the same course as the icon.
