The golf world is on its toes as the Fortinet Championship reaches its final day at the North Course at Silverado Resort Napa. The top golfers on the scoreboard are on the run to win a cut of the $8.4 million prize purse. But the eyes of the golf world are on Sahith Theegala as the event reaches its climax, and he looks to break his unfortunate PGA Tour loss streak and grab his first win since turning pro in 2020.
Many professional golfers, including Theegala, are in a bid to improve their positions in the overall FedEx Rankings as the first post-Tour event takes place. And even as the American professional leads the scoreboard looking to shatter his drought, it seems like that’s not the only record in the works to be broken!

The tournament is being headlined by popular golfers, including Justin Thomas, Eric Cole, and S.H. Kim, among others. Sahith Theegala is currently leading the scoreboard at T1 with a total of 17-under 199 over the first three days. Meanwhile, the second spot has been tied between Thomas, Cam Davis, and Kim at 15-under. But what’s surprising is that there is a special record waiting to be scripted at the event.
A tweet was uploaded by PGA Tour Communications on their handle, disclosing the final pairing at the event on Saturday. The 25-year-old duo, comprising Theegala and Kim, would be registering their first victory on the Tour if any one of the two managed to end the tournament with a win.
Moreover, the winner of the two would make it onto the list of people who picked up their first PGA Tour win at the Fortinet, becoming the sixth player to do so. The list of golfers who have achieved this feat includes Bryce Molder (2011), Jonas Blixt (2012), Jimmy Walker (2013), Emiliano Grillo (2015), and Kevin Tway (2018).

Both the American and the South Korean professionals would be aiming to get the cut of $1.512 million that has been set aside for the winner. Moreover, the two golfers would be aiming to register their first win of the year at the Fortinet Championship. Well, it can’t be helped if the unique record waiting to be broken makes one curious about the performance of the two in 2023.
Sahith Theegala and S.H. Kim’s performance in 2023
The 25-year-old American has had a bumpy year of sorts, with seven top-20 finishes under his belt without any wins. Moreover, he has missed the cut a total of three times in the year, while his best finish comes from the Farmers Insurance Open, where he placed T4 with a score of 9-under 279, but even so, the golfer has seen an incline in his performance with a top-20 finish at the first two FedEx Cup playoffs.

The South Korean has also had a rough season, with a total of 12 missed cuts and just seven top-20 finishes. His best came from the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open, where he placed T4 with a score of 264 (-20). Nevertheless, he will be looking forward to capitalizing on his good start to win the cup at the first event of the FedEx Fall season.
