Is Crew Koepka's journey a testament to the resilience of premature babies everywhere?

Brooks Koepka and Jena Sims’ only son, Crew, is growing up faster than the parents would have expected. Last year, on June 27th, the couple welcomed Crew six weeks early. As he was a premature baby, Crew spent his initial 20 days in the NICU, and only after that could the Koepka family welcome Crew into the home.

Since then, it has been only upwards and above for the family of three, and now Jena Sims is a little emotional as she witnesses her only child grow up in front of her eyes. The Sports Illustrated model usually posts many Crew Koepka updates on her social media, and this one was like any other.

After sharing a few of the packages she received with the fans, Sims wrote in her latest Instagram story, “Sad but big day.” Well, the 35-year-old model was emotional because Crew Koepka was moving from wearing a baby diaper to a toddler size now, and it also changed the bag she would usually carry around. Sims emotionally added, “Upgraded from a “baby-sized diaper bag” to a Toddler sized one😭😭😭❤❤.”

October clearly is a big one for little Crew, who marked this milestone, and a couple of others in his 14 months of life. As a premature baby, Crew Koepka endured many complications, but as he grows up, at least two of them will not be in his life going forward.

Spending 20 days in the NICU meant that Crew Koepka would get the best intensive carer to face the world as a premature baby. But what it also incurred was the flat head syndrome from constantly lying on his head and torticollis. To have Crew Koepka’s head shaped more round and allow him to face no complications in the future, the parents had their small child wear a protective, corrective helmet.

Have an interesting take?

For much of the time, Crew Koepka was always wearing one, whether he was in his house or supporting his father on the course. However, after 14 months, he had outgrown that phase and no longer needed to wear the helmet. In early October, Sims posted on her Instagram story and revealed that he was at the end of treating flat head syndrome and that his helmet would come off eventually.

And just two days ago, Sims and Crew Koepka were enjoying themselves in NYC without the baby wearing his helmet, indicating that he rarely wore it now. Crew also endured hip dysplasia and used to wear a Pavlik harness, but his hip joints were finally stable without the harness, and the little guy stopped wearing that as well.
