The month of August has been quite fruitful for Lucas Glover, who has jumped up the rankings table with back-to-back victories. After bagging the titles of Wyndham and FedEx St.Jude Championships this month, Glover has climbed up to number 35 in the world rankings.

With very few weeks left for the Ryder Cup, the question arises about Glover making it to the team. There are three more tournaments still left on the schedule before Ryder Cup. Will this give him the much-required boost to make it to the team at the very last hour?

The terms of eligibility for playing the Ryder Cup representing the U.S. team are straightforward. A player can join the team in one of two ways. He has to secure a place in the top six positions in the US rankings table, or the captain has to handpick him.

Being picked by the captain involves several factors that are beyond the control of the players. However, if the player can climb up the ladder, then he can safely enter the team without uncertainties.

Glover now holds around 2,500 points at the table. To make it to the top six, the 43-year-old would need to score over 6000 more points. This would be required to bridge the gap between him and Patrick Cantlay, who stands at number six currently. Interestingly, Glover and Cantlay both scored 15-under-par in the St. Jude Championship, where the former won in the inducing playoff.

If fit, Glover will play in three more tournaments before the Ryder Cup. Unfortunately for him, though, only the BMW Championship will count for qualifying for the Ryder Cup. This inevitably means that Glover cannot make it to the team through his ranking.

The PGA Tour Pro’s chances of playing the Ryder Cup now rest with the captain. Getting picked by Zach Johnson, the current captain of the US team, is the only way Glover can enter the team.

“I want camaraderie and chemistry in the team room. I want ownership by the team,” Johnson described his expectations from the final 12 that will play the cup. “… I want horses for courses. I want guys that can navigate Marco Simone in September, and caddies because it’s a hilly gem.”

He sounded eager to get the team to Marco Simone before the cup. This is because the PGA Tour players missed out on the Italian Open this year.

Johnson admitted that among the many factors to be considered, stats still hold priority. He hopes that the top six and his vice captains will work with him on finalizing the team.
