Viktor Hovland‘s 2022-2023 PGA tour season was no less than a dream. He scored two consecutive victories at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship and he currently sits on the fourth position in OWGR. Now, he is ready to face the American team at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy in September.
Speaking to The 73rd Hole Apple podcast, Hovland answered how he likes his competitors. “But it’s one of those things. You want to go out there and play against the best player on their team. And you both are playing great golf, but then you just add your mouth, hopefully. But yeah, I just I just like to play against whoever’s playing pretty sweet at the time.”
Team Europe will host the Ryder Cup this year. And it is natural that they would want to win the game at home and keep the trophy there. In the podcast, he also conveyed that there is a lot of responsibility to shoulder. Because the statistics show that the European team has not lost the event on home soil since 1993.
Hovland also opened up about how it feels to play the Ryder Cup. According to him, every single shot during the cup feels like a life-or-death situation. And mentioned how he was not able to chip the ball really well when he played in the 2021 Ryder Cup. He is not a serious golfer all the time though, in his free time, he can be a character from a slapstick, if truth be told.

Hovland’s another nickname can be ‘goofball’
The Norwegian professional has a different side to himself apart from being a splendid golfer. One of his favorite things to do off the course is to listen to some music. And it is not your everyday, regular melodies.
He is a metal fan, and loves the word ‘blegh’ in the songs. In a recent video going viral on social media, the PGA tour pro can be seen having fun listening to his metalcore music. And saying ‘blegh’ in between. It left the fans hysterical.

His fun side might be the reason for his consistent performance. Because Hovland certainly knows how to keep himself from getting stressed. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 2021, and will be seen trying to take back the trophy from Team USA.
