In a recent interview conducted at the Marco Simone Golf Club ahead of the international event, Zach Johnson acknowledged the immense pressure on the American team, which has longed for a victory on European soil for three decades.

He stated, “Every two years, a new opportunity comes with a new team at a new venue.” However, the team captain also emphasized that the team has evolved and is not thinking too much about the 30-year curse.

He said they learned from past experiences but “it’s irrelevant” now since the team is not the same as in 1993 and in subsequent years. Once again, the team members are starting fresh. The players have adapted to the ever-more challenging courses and are better equipped this year.

Zach Johnson further highlighted that this Ryder Cup marks the beginning of a new chapter for the current 12 players on the team. He emphasized that these players are grounded, fully committed to putting their best foot forward and dedicated to defending their country’s honor.

During the interview, the person speaking with the American captain acknowledged that it had been 18 months since Zach Johnson was appointed captain. He praised Johnson for his dedicated efforts leading up to this Ryder Cup.

The interviewer then went on to ask him that when he looks around right now at this moment, how does he feel about all the hard work that went down these past 18 months. In a kind and humble manner, Johnson responded, “There are only so many truly surreal moments that you experience in life, and certainly, this is one of them for me.”

He went on to explain that his mentality for the weekend is to savor every moment to the fullest. He mentioned that this mindset has been a constant through all the Ryder Cups he has ever played but this one is especially significant to him as he serves in a different capacity, which he is thoroughly enjoying.
