Although the Europeans had dominated the Ryder Cup 2023 right from the beginning, there was a real threat to their victory on the third day. With a series of Americans at lead, and a few others giving a good fight, the chances were swaying across the two sides of the Atlantic. And it was Tommy Fleetwood’s 16th-hole win against Rickie Fowler that sealed the deal for their side.
Following his recent Ryder Cup success, the English golfer has made an interesting announcement. Fleetwood has stepped into a project that would have an immense impact on his homeland in the coming decades. It has a lot to do with golf and something to do with the Ryder Cup as well.

A recent press release on Tommy Fleetwood’s official website talks about his involvement in the development of a new golf course at Hulton Parkland in Northwest England. To quote, it says “Tommy Fleetwood has become an ambassador for a proposed purpose-built new golf course in Bolton, Greater Manchester, which is bidding to host the Ryder Cup.”
The impact of this venture is likely to be significant to the region, going by the data presented. The golf club is expected to create around 1,000 jobs. It’s also predicted to provide about 1.6 billion pounds in socio-economic benefits over a couple of decades.
“I can see that it would inspire more people in the North West to take up the game and for those who don’t play golf, it will also bring jobs, investment, and tourism to the region and open up a huge new green space for the community,” Fleetwood said.

The venue has been shortlisted with two others, to host a future Ryder Cup. Considering how the 2025 Ryder Cup is set to take place in the US, this is likely to be about the one after that. At least Fleetwood is supporting the venue’s bid from his end.
There is a historical connection to Fleetwood’s involvement in the venture that makes it more noteworthy.
Keeping the golfing legacy alive
Tommy Fleetwood was born in Southport, Merseyside, which is 20 miles away from Preston, Lancashire. The historical importance is that Samuel Ryder, the Godfather of the Ryder Cup, was born at Walton-le-Dale in Lancashire, near Preston.
