Another golf battler concluded yesterday at the Marco Simone Golf Club, Rome. The Ryder Cup officially went home to the European Team. They put up a splendid show and ended up winning by a great margin: 16.5 – 11.5. It came as a relief for the Europeans, who suffered a rather embarrassing defeat in 2021 at the Whistling Straits.

The Americans however are headstrong and have bounced back from the defeat rather quickly. Despite an abject loss, they have been leaving humorous remarks on social media. Interestingly, Brooks Koepka being the only LIV golfer on the team has also tried to further the LIV Golf banner by adding PGA Tour pros to his breakaway league’s team!

Recently, there was a Twitter exchange between PGA Tour pros and LIV golfers. The sole LIV Golfer at the Ryder Cup, Brooks Koepka, posted a picture with Max Homa, Rickie Fowler, Sam Burns, and Xander Schauffele, but not just an ordinary one.

The picture featured all the players wearing the Koepka-led GC Crushers tee shirt. The team is among the 12 outfits in the PIF-backed LIV Golf Series. This picture was posted with the caption, “I make money moves.”

Furthermore, this was also shared by the other fellow LIV golfers like Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson. The latter shared an emoji that conveyed his surprise at the picture.

On the other hand, DeChambeau was ready with a pun of his own!

Interestingly, in the picture, Koepka is the only one not sporting his team’s merchandise, instead wearing a blue Nike sweatshirt. The image was captured outside the Captain’s office during the Ryder Cup.

While team camaraderie bodes well in this picture, the question of why America couldn’t live up to the expectations still looms large.

What went wrong for Team USA at the Ryder Cup?

What went wrong at the 2023 Ryder Cup for the American team was a combination of factors. Initially, a flu outbreak among the team members disrupted their preparation, leading to a disastrous start in the foursomes.

Captain Zach Johnson’s questionable decision-making, from his captain’s picks where he ignored players from LIV as well as players with better current performing form, to his in-game strategies, backfired. Key players underperformed, putting additional pressure on the team.

Ultimately, the recurring pattern of the American team struggling on the road, coupled with Europe’s exceptional performance on day one and then following through with the same momentum, resulted in a disappointing and lopsided loss, leaving the future of the Ryder Cup in question as the team could not break the three-decade-old curse.
