Team Europe is euphoric following their commanding 16.5-11.5 win at the Ryder Cup in Rome last week. Team US, on the other hand, is in the doldrums with captain Zach Johnson particularly coming under fire.

Johnson has received criticism for the pairings and selections. Johnson’s picks came under intense scrutiny from many, including six-time PGA Tour champion Hunter Mahan. However, this Ryder Cup veteran is not afraid of vouching for the US captain in what must be a big relief for Johnson.

When the nation’s dream was badly shattered in Rome, Johnson questioned his own captaincy. Johnson encountered some unanticipated challenges when many members became ill during the event.

Johnson accepted the majority of the responsibility and claimed it was all his fault. The captain claimed that the players gave their all and performed admirably. But perhaps as a result of his choices, the squad was defeated. “I wish I’d done a better job,” said the captain.

Jim Furyk, one of the American vice captains, doesn’t have any doubts about Johnson’s captaincy, though. Johnson was incredibly organized and took care of the team even during their difficult times, according to Furyk, who lauded the captain. “I’m sure Zach’s beating himself up right now, but I’ll tell you what: he did a great job; he was very organized; he had a good plan; we did have a few guys over there that were sick; and we did have a team doctor that had to give out a lot of antibiotics to get these guys feeling a little better,” said 53-year-old PGA Tour veteran.

Well, we hope the support from the Ryder Cup veteran gives some relief to Johnson. But even after the defeat, his selection from the LIV Golf Circuit is still being examined.

Was Brooks Koepka the right choice?

Brooks Koepka made headlines when he was selected for the esteemed event. He was the lone participant from the Saudi-sponsored circuit. Koepka’s accomplishment in this year’s majors, especially the win at the PGA Championship and tied-second finish at the Masters, was a factor in his selection.

However, in the eyes of many, Bryson DeChambeau would have been a more suitable guy than Koepka, in light of his current form. DeChambeau recently took home $5.25 million at the Chicago LIV Golf Series competition.

One supporter claimed on Reddit that after watching the LIV golf event, he has come to the conclusion that DeChambeau is far superior to Koepka. He’s been giving it his all, and his putting is excellent, Very poor decision from Team US.”
