LIV Golf Champion? $18 million bonus? The fans don’t seem to care. Neither did they bat an eyelid for Jon Rahm’s recent achievements, despite the Spaniard raking in millions of dollars and the title of the season-long champion. And they didn’t fail to express the same under the recent post that the LIV Golf pro shared on his social media handle.
Jon Rahm Rodriguez uploaded a tweet to his profile on X, recounting the past week as well as the year. “What a week!” he wrote, “It’s been quite the year but I couldn’t be more grateful – to play the game I love in front of fans around the world.” But that’s not all, as he also expressed his hope of winning the upcoming event in Dallas; “Time for @LegionXIIIgc to finish strong at the Team Championship this week – looking forward to some matchplay! Vamos!!!“

Yes, he was alluding to the Team Championship that will tee off at Maridoe Golf Club in Dallas on September 20. With Legion XIII GC at T2 on the season-long leaderboard at 200 points, just eight behind Crushers GC, they sure do have quite a chance, to be honest! But then again, some of the fans didn’t appear to care about his future plans or his recent feats, as they took to bash him in a recent tweet.
Fans team up against Jon Rahm despite the Chicago win
89,000! Recognize these numbers? Well, they allude to the viewership that the Spanish golfer’s win in Chicago was able to rake in, or more specifically, his round 3 performance of 4-under 66 on Sunday. His 11-under overall victory wasn’t enough for the Saudi-backed league to even beat their own figures from the Saturday round (134,000).
A user took these numbers into play as they made fun of the athlete and his recent tweet addressing his fans. “ahahaha!!!” commented the fan as he added, “89k viewers = ‘fans around the world.'” Another person, meanwhile, pointed out how he ruined his legacy by defecting to the PIF-funded circuit: “You ruined your legacy!!! LIV is trash!!!!”

Has Jon Rahm ruined his legacy by joining LIV Golf, or is he just securing his future?
Have an interesting take?
Remember the $18 million bonus he raked in? Well, that is but almost half of what he managed to garner this year. Aside from the mind-boggling signing bonus, Jon Rahm, through his finishes including two wins in the LIV Golf league, won a total of $34.8 million. He also received $509,033 from the three major championships he teed off in, thereby further increasing his tally of dollar bills.
“All that money,” wrote a follower under the tweet, “You could burn piles of it. Too bad no official golf records will remember anything you did this year. What a shame.” Another, at the same time, dubbed him as inconsequential; “You have become irrelevant to the game of golf. Enjoy your money.”
He would have almost claimed a medal for himself at the Olympics. Yes, you read that right, for the 29-year-old was almost in sight of the bronze medal before choking in the final round of the quadrennial event. He put up figures of 67-66-66 over the first three days, thereby setting himself up for a podium finish.

However, come the final day, he failed to do the same despite dishing out seven birdies, five of which came from the front nine. But what led to his downfall? None other than the four bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine. And a golfing enthusiast didn’t let Rahm forget the choke even during his latest achievements, as they commented sarcastically, “Great back 9 in France!”
Surprised by the reactions? Quite natural to be so, especially after witnessing the Spanish pro put up a dominating performance at the 2024 LIV Golf League. What do you think of his recent feats? Do you agree with the followers on X?
