The 2023 Solheim Cup’s inaugural round tees off from today, with the starting pairings now locked in. Notably, Team USA seems to be prioritizing seasoned players over emerging talents in their pairing strategy.

Two rising icons in the sport, world No. 2 Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang, will sit out the morning segment. Yet, the pair could make an appearance in the afternoon’s four-ball session.

In a pre-tournament interview, Andrea Lee had shared her goodwill toward fellow Stanford player Rose Zhang. “Yeah, it’s a really special experience to share this with Rose. We didn’t play in college together… but she’s an incredible player, so the fact that she qualified on her own this year is pretty amazing.”

Rose had also mentioned her desire to play with Andrea as she mentioned, “We are Stanford alums. I’ve watched her play growing up playing amateur golf. We’ve been able to create a bond together so it’ll be fun to share the week with her.” However, according to the team captain Stacy Lewis, Andrea Lee now has asked her to be paired with Danielle Kang, in what now must be heart-breaking for Zhang.
