The golf world is nearing the end of the 2022-23 season on all fronts and the excitement is palpable. Even though all the major events have already concluded, there’s still the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, the CME Group Championship, and LIV Golf Team Championship left, along with a number of minor tournaments. That is, of course, aside from the $4 million co-sanctioned event at the end of the year.

Earlier this season, a competitive young golfer turned pro and started etching her name in history. Rose Zhang, who is frequently dubbed the female Tiger Woods of golf, has been turning heads since she received her LPGA card, and now, the 20-year-old pro plans on adding another feather to her hat.

At the beginning of the year, the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour announced their intention to bring back a long-forgotten tradition of a mixed event. The JCPenney Classic which ran for almost 4 decades came to an end in 1999. Tiger Woods played at the event in 1996 during his rookie years.

Now, his equally competitive female counterpart on the LPGA Tour is about to make history alongside Sahith Theegala from the PGA Tour. Since the co-sanctioned event was reinstated to replace the QBE Shootout at Florida’s Tiburón Golf Club, Rose Zhang has decided to play at the Grant Thornton Invitational from the 8th to the 10th of December. Aside from the $4 million purse at the three-day event, it is a massive opportunity for the anointed Solheim Cup US team player to display her talents alongside competitive golfers from the PGA Tour.

Zhang is popular in the LPGA circuit for her competitiveness and professionalism. She has displayed her edge on many occasions against her peers in several LPGA Tournaments this year, and taken down Tiger Woods’ 27-year-old legacy in her Amateur years. Playing at the Grant Thornton Invitational is a challenging opportunity that will test her skills on a wider platform with the 16 teams that will compete against each other.

Zhang’s incredibly competitive self will show a new side of the LPGA golfer in Naples where she will play alongside Sahith Theegala in one of the 16 teams.

What makes Rose Zhang a headliner at the Tiburón Golf Club?

The young American golfer has a spectacular reputation on the Tour wherein she earned her maiden crown at the very first professional event she played after turning pro. Even though wins are elusive on Zhang’s resume since the Mizuho America’s Open, she has proved herself every bit a competitor against prolific golfers such as Nelly Korda, who is also scheduled to play at the Grant Thornton Invitational.

The LPGA prodigy will graze the golf courses of Naples, Florida alongside the LPGA cover girl and several extraordinary players from the PGA Tour to culminate the 2022-23 season with flair. This event will be after the Solheim Cup where the two LPGA stars will play to win for Team US.
