Every Pro athlete needs support from family and friends. Golf is an unforgiving yet fruitful career path. The players especially need support during bad times. But what happens when your own flesh and blood doesn’t care to watch you play live?

At the ongoing US Women’s Open, Rose Zhang is a top contender. But here we are not talking about her being a top contender. It’s something else. It’s a member of her family, her mortgage banker brother, who has hogged the limelight. Let’s find out more.

As we mentioned earlier, athletes need support from their families when they play. Rose is no different. Her father has always been there on the greens to cheer his little girl on, while her mom makes appearances on the course now and then. One member of her family that never made an appearance live at her plays is her older brother Bill.

However, things took a different turn when her older brother by 10 years turned up to see her play for the first time. This resulted in Thursday’s game being way more special for Zhang. She shared her thoughts on the situation.

“He doesn’t play golf,” said Zhang. “He thinks it’s too slow-paced for him. He’s – yeah, I don’t think he ever found an interest to watch me. He has watched me on TV though, so at least he’s cheering me on. At least I know he’s supporting me,” she said.

Zhang always cites her father as an important pillar of support. Coach George Pinnell, who has seen her grow from an early age, vouches for the same. Speaking to Netline, he said that Zhang’s early development was overseen by her father. If it was technical, her father left it to the coaches. When it was about her state of mind or how she worked, he addressed the issues himself. Today, she is compared to the great Tiger Woods, no ordinary compliment for a golfer by any means.

Zhang herself has not been too vocal about her brother’s involvement with her career. She is happy that he saw her play live and respects his choice. This indeed was a special moment for the Pro. Something that made her day much brighter.
