Did you ever imagine Rory McIlroy trying a different sport? Probably not. The Irishman is attracting a lot of attention, not because he shot a 68 in the second round of the BMW PGA Championship as he is trying to win this $9 million event but because of the baseball pitch instead. Yes, you read that right. McIlroy’s recent clip from a baseball stadium went viral, and fans have something to say about it.
It originally happened last year in November when McIlroy was with Keegan Bradley at Boston Red Sox’ Fenway Park. And Bradley was teaching McIlroy how to throw a baseball pitch. The clip recently resurfaced again as Way to Golf shared it on Instagram. In the clip, McIlroy seems to be struggling to throw the pitch as he plants his right leg on the mound and throws while trying to keep his left leg lifted in the air. The post asked the fans to express their thoughts with the caption Rory McIlroy’s throwing ability is ________.
We know the 4-time major champion enjoys other sports like F1 and said, “I’ve always had an interest in F1. I’ve always been a fan.” Surprisingly, he has also invested $218 million through a private investment firm with big names from other sports like NFL players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and champion boxer Anthony Joshua. But who would have thought we would see him in a baseball stadium trying to throw some pitches?

However, none of these famous sports involve overhand throwing, which is why McIlroy’s pitch looked a bit unusual in the video.
This fan tried to compare Rory McIlroy’s pitch and an incident from the first round of the BMW PGA Championship and said, “Throws a club better than a ball.” While taking a shot, his TaylorMade clubhead detached from the shaft, flying down the fairway as he made contact with the ball in the tournament. Despite that, the ball traveled a significant distance with a speed of 128 mph, and the Irishman finished with 67 5-under-par in the first round.
