Rory McIlroy has always been an ardent supporter of the PGA Tour. Even when a large number of talented players ditched the traditional league for the new LIV Golf, he stood firmly fighting for the things he believed in. But when the $3 billion merger of the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and DP World Tour came out of the blue, he along with Tiger Woods was left in shock.
For Rory, it was no less than a stab in the back despite being a prestigious PGA Policy Board member. This left a serious impact on the player. Today, in a shocking decision, McIlroy stepped down from the PGA Policy Board. This has left the fans and golf author Alan Shipnuck furious.

On November 14, Rory McIlroy shockingly resigned from the PGA Tour Policy board. This news was revealed by Jay Monahan in a memo to the Tour players in which he thanked the Irishman for his dedication and commitment to the tour. In the memo, Monahan wrote, “Rory’s resignation letter, which he sent to the full board, clearly stated that the difficult decision was made due to professional and personal commitments.”
Monahan also highlighted how during his time Rory made enough contributions to the league. “During his tenure, Rory’s insight has been instrumental in helping shape the success of the tour, and his willingness to thoughtfully voice his opinions has been especially impactful.”
The shocking news presented a big opportunity for famous golf journalist Alan Shipnuck to comment upon it. Alan is known for his decades-old rivalry with golfer Phil Mickelson. Responding to the news of Rory McIlroy, Shipnuck immediately tweeted, “This was inevitable. Jay Monahan and Jimmy Dunne tore open Rory’s chest cavity, ripped out his heart, and stomped on it in Softspikes.”
