April is a joyful month for golf lovers. With the Masters headlining the joy and events like LIV Golf Miami, the Valero Texas Open, RBC Heritage, and LIV Golf Adelaide lined up back-to-back, this month is like a retreat for all patrons as well as other fans of the game. But April is also famous for another thing, April Fools Day, and the golf world surely knows how to pull a prank!

This year, no one was spared from the wrath of these ‘professional’ jokesters. From Rory McIlroy to Michael Block and the entirety of LIV Golf’s Majecticks GC, everyone was pulled into this funny debacle, leaving all of us in a state of momentary shock. Here’s everything that went down!

Famous golf media page Flushing It spearheaded the pranks by announcing that Rory McIlroy is bidding goodbye to the PGA Tour and has signed on with his former foe, LIV Golf. They made this news even more believable by delving into some key specifics, like the time and the team details of the Northern Irishman’s move. They declared that he would be making this move post-Masters and would join a team called “Shark GC,” under the patronage of Greg Norman.

While it did scare some fans initially, the date of execution gave their prank away. One fan wrote, “You got me for a second there. April fools buddy.” While another fan quickly admitted, “Once I read “Shark GC” I knew it, lol.”

The 34-year-old’s strong opinions on moving ships, initially coupled with his former role with the Player Advisory Council, all add to the reasons why such move is not expected of him. But, him softening up toward LIV Golf almost just gave it away!

2. Rory McIlroy’s LIV Golf joining rumor, followed by shocking Masters WD news

Rory McIlroy became the center of April Fool’s jokes once again when one of his fan pages remarked how he had withdrawn from the Masters and the Valero Texas Open, citing wrist injury-related issues. They also remarked that he has promised to make a comeback for the PGA Championship in May.

This created an even stronger layer of suspicion, but it was soon refuted as fans decoded the real reason behind these doubts. One fan even wrote, “I hate April 1st,” citing their annoyance at the sheer possibility of this news being true.

3. Has Michael Block made his way to the Masters?

Michael Block, a former club professional turned professional golfer who after a short-lived period of adoration in the form of a new golf wind called the “Block Party,” faced backlash over the last year for his comments about Rory McIlroy, was also a part of the April Fools saga.

One fan even remarked, “We could only hope and wish this was true,” thus demonstrating how unlikely they thought such an occurrence was.

4. Is LIV Golf Miami about to witness a bald team?

This year’s jokes reached their peak when LIV Golf’s Majesticks GC posted a bizarre edit of all of their members with bald heads. This included the three co-captains—Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Henrik Stenson—along with Sam Horsfield.

The only condition to this was the fact that “if this post gets 1000 likes, one of our players will shave their head this week in Miami.”
