The victory was so perfect that some might also believe that it was scripted. Woods looked in exuberant form with every stroke and everyone noticed that. Even the Irishman, Rory McIlroy.

The Irishman didn’t refrain from sharing his thoughts about his close friend’s performance. However, McIlroy may have gone a little overboard with his comparisons after losing to Woods. The fans didn’t shy away from speaking their minds about his ridiculous statement.

NUCLR GOLF shared what the 2024 DP World Tour Championship winner said on their X account. They posted, “🚨⛳️🏆 #MAJOR INTENSITY — Rory McIlroy says Tiger Woods’ compete level during TGL matches is equal to what he sees from him at majors: “…It’s amazing to go up and to compete against one of your heroes. I’ve shared the course with him many times, and I’ve been in a couple of final groups with him, and he has just as much intensity out there tonight as he does when he’s trying to win a major championship or trying to finish off a golf tournament. He was feeling it out there, and it was really cool to see. @TWlegion @TrackingRory”.

McIlroy was clearly overjoyed to see one of his idols in such sublime form. But his comments about Woods’s TGL victory being as good as any major win was not received well by the community. Let’s see what they said.

Fans believe Rory McIlroy is delusional

The wild comparison made by Rory McIlroy received a lot of backlash from the fans. It doesn’t come as a surprise that one of the fans said “Dumbest thing I may have ever heard”. They seemed to suggest that Rory McIlroy is way in over his head for comparing a TGL match performance to a victory in the majors. Another follower of NUCLR Golf commented “Shut the hell up 😂😂😂,” laughing off the ridiculous comparison made by the Irishman.

One of the X users also shared their thought process after reading McIlroy’s comments. They said, “Did Tiger just win another tournament, maybe another Major? Oh. Indoor simulator golf. Never mind”. This shows how less relevant Tiger Woods’s TGL victory was as compared to his major triumphs. There was another follower who bluntly called McIlroy’s statement “Bull shit.” It seems that the thought of TGL being compared to majors is quite absurd for them.

Another sarcastically tweeted “It means so much historically,” suggesting that Tiger Woods’s win in TGL was irrelevant to the sport. They also shared an image of Woods, Kisner, and Kim behind sun loungers with their names on it. The photoshopped image clearly suggests that Rory McIlroy’s comments and TGL shouldn’t be taken seriously.
